Palin Has Her Work Cut Out For Her Tonight

This is a real make-or-break speech.  The media narrative surrounding Sarah Palin has become overwhelmingly negative.  She needs to replace the narrative with a positive one by exceeding expectations in a major way.  Leaked excerpts indicate she will attack Obama - but that’s not going to be enough.  This is truly about her.  I’m expecting […]

As I Move From The “Approve” To The “Jury Is Still Out” Bucket…

…with respect to the Sarah Palin pick, I pledge to try to keep an open mind until her acceptance speech.  However, one ’scandal’ that has been reported as fact is apparently not.  Sarah Palin appears to have never been a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, according to no less a far-left source than Mother […]

At This Point, Does Anyone Care?

After the crazy baby rumor stuff, and the hurricane, and the long Labor Day weekend, the GOP (already facing an ‘enthusiasm gap’) is going to have to really struggle to keep this convention on track.  At this point, I can’t even find out the schedule for tomorrow.  My man Rudy G. was originally scheduled to […]

In A Bizarre Twist To The Palin Fake Pregnancy Rumors…

…it turns out that Bristol Palin (now age 17) IS in fact pregnant at the moment!  The campaign released the news in response to the fake pregnancy rumors concerning Palin’s 5th child, born with Down syndrome:
Bristol Palin, the 17-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin, is pregnant and will keep the baby and marry the father, a […]

Can You Go Any Lower When Your Address Is The Gutter?

Daily Kos continues to make history, with yet another dairy claiming that Sarah Palin is not the mother of her fifth child, born with Down syndrome, but rather that the mother is Palin’s daughter.  The evidence? A bunch of photographs and wild speculation.
I don’t know what to say, other than certain people better hope there’s […]

About That Convention…

…well, we’ll keep our eye on the hurricane and pray for all Gulf Coast residents, not just the residents of New Orleans.  It would appear from this vantage point that we are engaging in a bit of post-Katrina overreaction, but better to overreact than to underreact, that’s for damn sure.  What we know as of […]

Reaction To The Sarah Palin Pick

Well, I was out of the loop for more of the day yesterday than I had planned - obviously, the pick went in a different direction than I or almost anyone else anticipated.  I like it, though - besides the bold stroke of choosing a woman, this particular woman has some very solid credentials of […]

It’s Going To Be Romney…

…I’m almost certain.  My regulars know how I feel about that.
Sigh…
I won’t be able to update until this evening, whether I’m wrong or right…but more later…
UPDATE 08/30/08 3:14 a.m.:  Boy, oh, boy, I’ve seldom been so excited to be wrong!  More this weekend…but let me just say:  I think Palin is a great pick, and […]

No Convention Bounce?

Chris Bowers is worried:
Right now, the best I can muster is that the convention just doesn’t feel right. Although I might be dangerously treading into “I know it when I see it” territory, I knew after Gore’s convention 2000 speech that he would get a bump, while I had a really bad feeling after the […]

Oh, Dear God, No - Not Romney!

TIME’s Mark Halperin is quoting two McCain sources as saying he’s settled on Mitt Romney - and also is saying bet on Biden for Obama.
If this is true, I’m going to have to seriously consider sitting out this election (on a personal level - of course, I’ll continue to blog).  I hate to do that, […]

David Gergen On The McCain ‘Surge’

There is no question that it has been a pretty good run of late for John McCain.  Here’s David Gergen:
Say what you will about Republicans making a muddle of governing, but they sure know how to campaign. The turn of events that John McCain and his team have engineered in recent weeks is one of […]

What’s Behind The McCain Pro-Choice Feelers?

A lot of talk is flying on the Republican side of the 2008 election about McCain’s tentative information gathering on the feelings of Republican bigwigs and donors towards a pro-choice VP.  Multiple theories abound, but they can basically be gathered under two tents: he’s rehearsing for actually picking a pro-choice candidate, or he’s covering his […]

Biden? Biden??!!??

An incredible amount of buzz is surrounding the most unlikely of VP picks for Barack Obama - a pick that may be only hours away:
Going into the final days, Obama was said to be focused mainly on three candidates: Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana, Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia and Senator Joseph Biden Jr. of Delaware.
The […]

And So It Goes…

I’ll be taking a blogging hiatus for a few days, and may or may not get in another post after this one.  Two things I’ll be watching during my short time away (besides the Olympics - and yes, the Chinese gymnasts were underage - here’s the proof) are the continued flagrant violations of the Georgian […]

The Georgian Crisis Continues

If I bore some of my long-time readers with my continued focus on this topic, I do not apologize - for there is little else in the world happening now of the import of this.  Russia continues to show no signs of letting up, despite assurances it is doing so, and a deepening fear and […]

Endgame In Iraq?

Two stories floating around tonight suggesting that an agreement is near on the end of the Iraq War, for all intents and purposes. Both stories agree that the sticking point is legal immunity for American contractors who have worked in Iraq.  They disagree on the final withdrawal date of support personnel.  The AP says that […]

I Don’t Like The Campaign John McCain Is Running

I wanted a headline that was not coy or indirect, and I think I succeeded.  I’m not wading into the swamp of ‘race card’ politics again - I think both sides need to move on, as I’ve made abundantly clear elsewhere.  Nor am I going to talk about specific ads - I think we’ve covered […]

The Race Card: The Public Speaks

Okay, I’m sick of this topic, but we have gone into it in considerable detail in the comments two posts below, so it’s relevant.  Rasmussen did a poll, and while the vast majority of the public thinks McCain’s celebrity ad was NOT racist, a slightly smaller majority thinks Obama’s ‘dollar-bill’ comment WAS:
Sixty-nine percent (69%) […]

The Tiresome “Race Card” Debate

It’s the topic de jeur: Is McCain playing the race card by trying to scare voters from a black candidate?  Or is Obama playing the race card by bringing up a mythical smear campaign to win sympathy?
My take follows this excerpt:
Senator John McCain’s campaign accused Barack Obama of playing “the race card’’ on Thursday, citing […]

McCain By Four Among Likely Voters?

I don’t believe it for a minute…but here you go.  The more broad-based RealClearPolitics average has Obama by 3.2.  I’m more inclined to go with the InTrade crowd, who have Obama leading by nearly 2-1…
