The Race Is On


The Race For Number Two

Rudy Giuliani has led the Republican pack wire-to-wire (at least nationally - among the early primary states, Romney seems the frontrunner), but look what’s happening in the race for second.  A plunging Fred Thompson, a resurgent McCain, and Romney are within three points of each other in the RCP averages, and Mike Huckabee is surging below them, and polling increasingly well in the early primary states, as well.

Next up - do the markets know something about Thompson that we don’t?  Amid much questioning of the seriousness Thompson is bringing to the campaign trail, the Intrade live market quotes show Thompson at a mere 6.9% probability of reaching the GOP summit, behind even McCain… 

A final question - assuming Rudy can hold off the surge Romney will presumably get after winning the early prizes (if the current polling holds up) - would Romney consider being Giuliani’s VP?  What if the tables were turned?  Who knows…things are getting very interesting, though, as the actual voting gets nearer…
