The Race Is On

Anti-Hillary Dems Will Have To Find Another Savior

There has been a consistent belief (or at least, a fond wish) among many Democrats who are either outright opposed to Hillary Clinton or afraid that she is unelectable that Al Gore would come riding in to save the day (it should be noted that many of these same Democrats, while sympathetic to John Edwards, have rightly concluded he has no prayer of either the nomination or the presidency).  While you never say never in politics, Gore appears to have come very close in an appearance on NBC’s Today show:

Insisting again that he will not run for president in the 2008 election or in a future one, Gore told [Today show host Meredith] Vieira he is focused on his campaign for the environment and his belief that accumulating greenhouse gases have put Earth on a collision course with a climatic catastrophe.

“I don’t have any plans or any intentions of being a candidate again,” Gore, 59, told Vieira on Thursday. “The main reason is I am involved in a different kind of campaign to try to raise awareness to what I believe is truly the most serious crisis our civilization has ever faced.”Undeterred, Vieira tried again to get Gore to concede that he has the name recognition, credentials and passion to make reversing global warming “job one” as president, but Gore wasn’t biting.

“I’ve kind of fallen out of love with politics,” he finally admitted. In 2000, Gore received more popular votes than George W. Bush, but lost the presidential race in the Electoral College and the courts.

Yes, we never fail to be reminded of Al Gore’s victory in the popular vote.  Too bad that has never been the basis of electing presidents…but I’m kind of sad to see Gore bow out.  I’m certainly no fan, but compared to some of the clowns currently seeking the nomination, he’s a giant, and he would, at the very least, have made the race much more entertaining.

Nevertheless, it’s the right move…he’s waited too long.  The Hillary fund-raising lead has made her the establishment candidate of choice…only Obama has a chance to derail her, and it’s a slim one…

Hillary Clinton isn’t leading in the invisible primary, “campaign fundraising. In the second quarter alone, Sen. Obama out raised her by 10 million dollars in primary money.

Al Gore is a loser, a blowhard who talks to people like they are idiots or children. Hillary, despite her shortcomings, is a much more serious and substantial person. She also has a track record as an effective senator. What has Al ever done–oh wait, he invented the Internet!

Thanks for demonstrating that you’re a media-speaking idiot before people started accidentally taking you seriously. I appreciate that. Gore would make a fantastic candidate compared to the inexperienced group of mediocre candidates that the Dems are fielding. Granted, few want to see another Republican candidate (most Americans have realized that they made a huge mistake twice) but that is a good reason to produce as many big name Democrats as possible to see who shakes out in fundraising and primary polling. To suggest that Al Gore is arrogant for his position on global warming is to allow obscure, purely discursive personal preferences to overshadow the huge gains and traction that he has brought to the modern environmental movement that speaks to the conscious of so many Americans.

The Clintons are never required to provide papers for public examination. We are required to “trust what they say” no matter how many versions they put forth. I hope the bloggers do the work we all know the MSM will notThese records will stay locked up tighter than John Kerry’s discharge papers.
