The Race Is On

The Race Is Now (Truly) On

Such will be my new tagline, as “It’s Never Too Early” is now too late.

Such is also the state of the Republican Party’s nomination battle, as the newest CNN/Opinion Dynamics poll has Rudy up over McCain by a mere 2%, with his lowest showing in a major national poll yet at 25% support.  In fact, the traders at Intrade now have McCain leading Giuliani by 2%.

I have no aversion to John McCain, unlike many of my fellow Republicans, but I seriously wonder if he is too old to win.  I don’t mean in the sense that he is not capable of leading, but in the sense that he lacks the dynamism and the charisma often needed in the general election (just ask Al Gore - or, on the opposite side of the coin, Bill Clinton).  Reagan is, as always, the exception that proves the rule…

from just glancing at the poll, it looks like FDT takes from Giuliani and the undecided, as both dropped fairly significantly to make up for Thompson’s 13%. Nobody else seems to be moving much or have any momentum according to this one. Personlly, glad to see some tightening.

Well Mark, I can remember when I came across your site via Polipundit. I think it was late 04 or maybe the first half of 2005 and I thought ‘who’s this nut already talking about the 2008 election?” Well, as you say, the race is now truly on so I guess now you look much more like a wise man than a ‘nut’. Now if you would only accept the superiority of Arizona State over Texas Tech your transformation would be complete! ;)

Never! I have to stick with my alma mater - otherwise what kind of Red Raider would I be?…

I wanted to post this comment today to alert common sense voters regarding Rudy Giuliani’s position that he will appoint if elected president “Strict Constructionists” to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Now I must admit I have zero confidence in Rudy’s pledge to keep this promise. My logic for my concerns are based on the fact that as Mayor of New York City, he named liberal judges to office in his capacity as the law allowed him to do.

Secondly, in the 1990’s Rudy as many of you may know, donated to Planned Parenthood not once, but six seperate times. Pulling some stunt like this one time would be by far to many times indeed, and anything like six seperate times is just ahorent. These contributions totaled roughly $ 900 hardly something a Conservative would ever think of doing.

What makes any person with this knowledge lead them to think, that Rudy will somehow decide to all of the sudden change the way he approaches Constitutional Law on the subject of abortion, along with his liberal views on homosexual rights, Gun Control, as well as Immigration Reform ?

I just seriously doubt that this is a workable position any Pro-Life or for that matter, Pro-Second Amendment voter can risk with their vote. When all of us voters listen intently later on in the campain cycle to Rudy’s quite progressive views on Social Policy, I can only hope Rudy will not still be standing in the Republican Primary Contest.

We all care so very much about this and it would be so sad to see the Supreme Court go left of center on the Constitutional questions regarding Social matters any time, but especially when the Strict Constructionist or textualist view of interrupting the Constitution, is only one vote away from tipping that crucial 5th Vote on the Supreme Court towards the true reading of our Constitutional Document !

Now I personally am so very thankful and gracious to Mr. Giuliani’s very strong leadership following the September 11th sadness, for he showed strong courage and lead us all in those times of great peril.

I am not personally upset with Mayor Giuliani, I just know with his previous acts of naming Liberal Judges to office as Mayor, it is in my view, not believable when he promises to name Strict Constructionists to the Highest Court in the Land. That’s all, nothing other than a feeling of distrust, not anger.

Now here are several names of past and current Judges and even lawyers that I believe a Rudolph William Louis Giuliani III Presidency would appoint if he were ever Elected to the High Office of President of the United States of America.

Judicial nominees would look something like these people as I see it: Former Supreme Court Justice Lewis Franklin Powell, Jr. , Former Suprme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Conner, Current Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, Maureen Mahoney an attorney at law of Washington, D.C., Law Firm Latham & Watkins, summary of her work includes the case, Grutter v. Bollinger decided in 2003. An Affirmative Action case she argued before the U.S. Supreme Court decided by a 5-4 vote in her favor, for the University of Michigan Law School. This case was an Affirmative Action case that went against Conservative Principles. Another such Judge a Rudy Giuliani Presidency would likely result in to the Supreme Court is 10th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Michael W. McConnell.

Every single one of these people are well accomplished in their legal carriers and are Well Qualified Academically. However, I must point out, none of these individuals have the willingness required to interrupt the the laws of the United States with the “Judicial Integrity” where there is ambiguity in the law. I know espicailly on the hot button issues of our time they will be all too satified to read their moderately liberal views into their Judicial Rulings.

This is Unacceptable, our nation needs Jurists in the mold of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. of the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Laurence Silberman of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Janice Rogers Brown of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Edith Hollan Jones of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, Attorney at Law Miguel Estrada, Judge Emilio Garza of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, or Judge Karen J. Williams of the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.

All of these have the Academic qualifications as well as the Judicial Integrity to decide all cases with the profound humility as well as the commitment to not overreach in their legal opinions and will narrowly tailor their legal writings. These are the Judges our country must have in order to accomplish our so long dreamed of goal of finally purifying our nations Highest Court.

I am not going to apologize for one second to Rudy Giuliani, just becuase our party is so distressed with 3 non-conservative Republican Candidates.

Fellow G.O.P. Brothers and Sisters do not for one single second forget “Fred Dalton Thompson” for he is still very strong. He will fix this problem and we will be able to win a General Presidential Election while still not surrendering our values just to win an Election that yields so little of our core beliefs.

Having a Republican Even as liberal as RUDY is better than a Mega liberal such as Hillary Clinton I promise you I understand this.
I’m just saying think long and hard before you get scared and bolt and lose it all in the end.
