CNN Poll: Surge For McCain?
Hard to believe the results of this poll, as it seems to be an outlier from all the others, but nevertheless, the latest from CNN/Opinion Dynamics shows Rudy with a mere three-point lead over McCain, 27-24, with Fred Thompson at 11 and Romney at 10. Thompson’s possible entry seems to have marginalized Gingrich to some extent, and Romney appears to at last have made a little headway, since this is the second poll in a row to have him in the double-digits (barely). But the big jump for McCain seems hard to credit…we’ll see if any more new polling confirms it…

Actually, this poll seems to track with the ARG poll released a few days ago (Rudy 27%, McCain 23%, not sure about the other candidates), and the poll you mentioned a few days ago (LA Times I think) seems to be the outlier. Really, I’d say McCain is about five or six points behind Rudy right now, and essentially tied in the early primary and caucus states. I think the hardcore pro-Iraq, pro-surge, anti-Democrat stance he’s taking now is reversing his trend lines. Also I think the Media turning on him is making GOPers look at him as a Republican again. Of course, all of this can change, but right now he’s looking competitive again.
Hmmm, maybe so. I don’t think McCain is dead, but when Thompson’s numbers started shooting up, I started to wonder. Maybe there’s some life in the ol’ boy yet.
Good point, Mark, about Thompson neutralizing Gingrich. The Gingrich support always struck me as nothing more than a placeholder; I think even the most rabid Newt supporter knows he has no chance. At least Thompson seems much more viable, and we can get on with the debate over the candidates without wasting too much time on a guy who, brilliant though he may be, is not going to be the nominee.

Hello-
This is to give you credit for finding this poll, which I found very interesting. I am the publisher of Campaignia.org, a nonpartisan site which is dedicated to studying campaigns. Currently, it is focused on Senator McCain’s campaign. The Exploring McCainia web log – which you can access directly by clicking on the link above.
On Friday, I did a series of horse-race poll posts, and I agree that it is interesting that McCain did so much better in this one than he did in those released late last week.
The main site – http://www.campaignia.org – has a great deal of content, as well. I have just started accumulating general 2008 links, and I have included your site on the list as one which visitors should take a look at. You can look at the beginning of the list – it’s going to take a while for it to be complete – by visiting this link:

Comments, feedback, etc., positive or otherwise, always welcome.
Sincerely,

Mark, buddy, there’s something wierd going on with some of these comments. It’s like you’re getting McCain spam or something. I mean, McCain’s my guy for the time being, but I don’t like this whole spamming independent blogs thing, if it’s coming from people attached to him. Either that, or I’m acting a bit paranoid.
Oh, well, I got the Ron Paul spammers a while back – unless it gets totally out of hand, I won’t ban them…but buyer beware! As the election nears, I’m sure to get all sorts of ‘interested’ parties commenting, I would imagine…

Is there something wrong, Mark, with speaking about Ron Paul? Are you frustrated because he actually follows his oath of office(To uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States of America)? I don’t mean for this to be “spam”, but I’m just curious as to how a man could be so hated when he is a true statesman(not typical politician) that has a consistent(not flip-floppy) record of voting on issues based on the boundaries set by the Constitution. I guess this nation is happy to march toward Socialism, oh well…
No, there’s nothing wrong with speaking about Ron Paul. You’re not spamming me to come here and say you like him. The spammers that I’m talking about are the ones who flooded the Pajamas poll with hundreds of votes from the same IP address and then asked me to accept at face value the proposition that a guy who polls at 1% or less was outgunning Giuliani.
By all mean, advocate for your candidate, that’s the beauty of American politics…
