Will We Attack Iran?

Everyone is in a tizzy over Bush’s plans to protect our soldiers:

The White House said Sunday it is not planning military action against Iran, but refused to rule out the possibility, bucking pressure from several senators who said the administration is not authorized to do so.

Asked whether the United States is preparing for a potential military conflict with Iran, President Bush’s national security adviser Stephen Hadley told NBC’s “Meet the Press,” “No, the president has said very clearly that the issues we have with Iran should be solved diplomatically.”

But, on ABC’s “This Week,” Hadley would not rule out the possibility of such an attack and would not say whether he agrees with those senators who say that the Bush administration would need congressional backing for such a move.

The sharp questioning about U.S. plans for Iran followed Bush’s address to the nation Wednesday night announcing his strategy for Iraq, in which he vowed the United States “will interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq.”

More hysterics here:

Has George W. Bush ordered up a “secret war” against Iran and Syria? Some administration opponents on Capitol Hill began asking this question after U.S. forces in recent weeks arrested two groups of Iranian government representatives inside Iraq. Bush particularly alarmed critics when, in announcing his new Iraq policy, he pledged to “interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria” and to “seek out and destroy the networks.”

What’s alarming to me is that people are alarmed that we would go after networks responsible for dead American soldiers.  Obviously, we’re not going to invade Iran; even if we were so inclined, it’s a flat impossibility given the situation on the ground in Iraq.

However, that certainly doesn’t mean that Iran should be able to kill Americans, either directly or indirectly.  It’s a very simple equation: target Americans and we target you.  There’s nothing hard – or controversial – about that…

We don’t need to attack Iran, we’ll just put Jack Bauer on ‘em, that’ll solve the problem.

The concern is that we’ll gussy up some Tonkin thing and use it as cover to actually invade.

You know that; I know that; but it’d be a mistake to give that kind of credit to the government.

Iran would be a pushover if the military was given the greenlight to fight a war instead of a sissy left wing PC bunch of BS.. No invasion. Turn it over the the Navy and Air Force. Boom, Boom, Boom, tactical nuclear weapons, 48 hours = a totally crippled nation. No fight required other than from the air.

  • I would worry some about the response to such a strike, Scrapiron. Iran isn’t doing all that they could to make trouble for us in Iraq right now.

War is imminent. I agree with Scrapiron in terms of how difficult the war will be. The problem is what remains. What justification do we use? Nuclear weapons..haha..they have tried for twenty years and have failed.

Look what is left of the so called American dreams and democracy? A bunch of brain dead psychos talking about nuking a nation!!!!!

  • I disagree I think it’s just a matter of time before we attack Iran. Emperor Bush is trying to rally support by making accusations that the top forms of the Iranian government are supplying the insurgents in Iraq with weapons. I think we should respond to that but I don’t think a full scale invasion is the answer. Trust me within the next few months we will attack Iran. I hope I’m wrong but I doubt it.
