…a big, fat nothing. I’m starting to feel like Atrios here, I’ve got such a case of blogger’s block.
So, if there’s anyone around who isn’t traveling or busy with family, two questions:
What was the biggest story of 2006?
Who’s your nominee for Yearly Jackass?
Enquiring minds want to know…

Here are three names to start with in no particular order of asininity:
1. John Kerry - His comments about our troops during the election and his general arrogance. What a buffoon.
2. Jimmy Carter - His latest book and his refusal to debate its contents feeling he is the only true person who understands the situation in the Middle East. He gets worse with age.
3. Kofi Annan - The worst most corrupt Secretary General in the history of the UN. Finally he is gone. Maybe now the Useless Nations can become a productive entity. Not.
Muffin suggested Dick Cheney for shooting the lawyer earlier this year but anytime someone can shoot a lawyer and get away with it is a hero in my eyes. She also recommended the twosome of Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame for their antics and the absolutely idiotic lawsuit they have filed.
Biggest story on 2006. Repubs lose the House and Senate. None other is close.

Jackass of the Year would have to go to the Republican Party for running a disasterous campaign.
Other than that, I agree with Dwiddle.

Biggest story is the deteriorating state in Iraq. 2006 started with such promise with the Iraq election, but the occupying powers failed to follow through by establishing order. It was a screw up on the part of the Bush Administration.
I don’t think any jackass stood out from the rest.

I call it holiday blogger’s block — I’m stuck too!

Biggest story: Democrats winning control of the House and Senate. Runner up: the increasingly obvious bungling of the campaign in Iraq.
As for jackass, I think Dwiddle has created an exhaustive list of choices. I make my choice from that list based on my perception of the damage done by the nominee.
Thus, Kerry’s moves, while totally and repetitively jackassian, result in damage almost exclusively to himself. Likewise, former President Carter’s actions simply affirm what those of us who were old enough to witness first-hand from 1976 - 1980 observed: that he is a cotton-headed thinker, an anti-semite, and a racist, but who only harms himself and his historical reputation.
So, yes, Koffi Annan is my choice for Jackass of The Year. When we compile the list of sins committed on his watch: the Balkans, Rwanda, Oil-for-Food, Iraq (Saddam), Darfur, and the Human Rights Commission, we see a man who worked tirelessly to demonstrate to the rest of the world that the United Nations is an impotent, incompetent, useless, and dangerous organization.
Congrats Koffi and Good Luck!

Comrades,
Darn! Here again, I find myself in agreement with Steve. That’s an amazing way to end the year, but probably reflective of how much all of us have in common, regardless of our politics. The devil’s in the details, as it were…..
To all here, a Joyous Christmas, a Happy Hannukah, a Sumptuous Saturnalia, and a most prosperous and interesting New Year.
Respects to all,

Jackass of the Year - Durham DA Mike Nifong, for his atrocious behavior and how he has absolutely ruined the lives of these three innocent young men, only to make it easier for him to keep his job.
Nothing would be more statisfying than him (and the accuser) seeing jail time for their terrible, unethical behavior.
