The Race Is On

The Iowa Poll: Clinton Viewed Unfavorably By 49%

Hillary’s presidential campaign seems to be in real danger of running out of steam, and that’s bad news for Democrats, as, if the primaries were held today, the number one candidate would appear to be the not-ready-for-prime-time (and horrible campaigner) John Edwards:

Today’s Iowa Poll of the 2008 race for president in the Hawkeye state ought to make Republicans happy and cause a pause on the Democratic side.

It’s particularly bad news for…Sen. Hillary Clinton…

We asked likely Iowa voters what they’d do in some hypothetical 2008 matchups in the state. The two GOP front-runners, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Sen. John McCain, beat the Democratic front-runners - Clinton, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry.

(Giuliani beats Clinton 56-37; Edwards, 51-43; and Kerry, 53-40. McCain defeats Clinton 54-37; Edwards, 47-46; and Kerry, 53-39.)

…This survey is a further measure of just how unelectable Clinton may be. She loses Iowa, albeit by tiny margins, to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, two relatively unknown guys who lose the state to Democrats Vilsack, Kerry and Edwards.

Among all Iowa voters, Clinton is viewed unfavorably by a whopping 49 percent of the electorate. Only 43 percent see her in a favorable light, and 8 percent aren’t sure. Whenever a candidate’s unfavorables exceed their favorables, there is trouble ahead.

Once again, Rudy comes out looking like a big, big winner…

Are we surprised that Hillary Clinton polls poorly in Iowa? I’m not. Even Iowa Democrats lean toward conservatism, if not the Republican’s form.

Which is not to say she is without her problems. She has trouble with the far left because of her votes and stand on Iraq. She has trouble on the right because she is, well, a Democrat. She is in trouble with Moderates because she has historically favored statist, socialistic government policies and favors increasing government “resources”, i.e.; taxes. And she is in trouble with everyone because she places low on the trust scale, is seen as an opportunist, and - sorry to be so crass - comes across as a bit of a bitch, that is, her public personna is unlikable.

I still won’t count her out though. Not yet at least, it is just 2006 afterall.

Having been to Iowa during the summer to see Elizabeth Edwards, I can assure any reader here that Iowans do not think John Edwards is a horrible campaigner. On the contrary, they like him because he’s speaks with heart and mind. He’s empathetic, a quality that Hillary Clinton doesn’t show or appear to have, which is why she has high unfavorable ratings. It has nothing to do with her gender.

Rudy is the one that surprised me considering many of his party think he’s too liberal, but I guess he is remembered as the hero of 9/11.

I would tend to agree, except when you remember that Tom Harkin (Senator for many years there) is about as far Left as you can go without falling off the edge of a cliff.

Edwards could well be the big beneficiary of this curious harmonic de-convergence that plagues the Dems. Kerry, Gore and Clinton all seem to have fatal flaws. Since Edwards is as unknown as someone with his level of name recognition can be, he seems a “safe” option. Yeow, would that ever be a disaster for the Dems. Kerry of course got the lion’s share of what scrutiny the ticket endured and Edwards was nearly unexamined except for his hair. Any meager but genuine examination of the “career” of this once elected Senator would send him back to the obscurity he so richly deserves. To call this guy an empty suit is a harsh insult to thousands of hard-working American suits across this great nation. To call him a shyster is to malign that term. Edwards, absent a Kerry to divert attention, will be the most ridiculous figure of ‘08, even if Al Sharpton makes a comeback. At least Al knows what he thinks. Edwards is an empty vessel and promises to remain so in perpetuity.

Wow…. you people have no idea what your talking about…lol, its funny reading all of your comments. Seriously what kind of americans are you???? communist ones just like our current government (a so called “democracy”). Forget Hilary, i mean you can be serious…..
