I don’t know if Jane Hamsher or Arianna Huffington were responsible for this graphic (I realize they didn’t design it, I’m talking about broad responsibility), but they’ve surely seen it. And it’s racist. Plain and simple. Not to mention inexplicable and incomprehensible. Disgusting, and deserving of widespread condemnation, but very indicative of the gutterball tactics used by Huffington and Hamsher and most of the ‘progressive’ left.
If Huffington and Hamsher don’t agree with it, they should say so, and remove the picture and apologize…
(hat tip to Little Green Footballs)…
UPDATE 2:57 p.m.: It’s down now, apparently, with no apology or retraction. Fundamentally dishonest, as well; they’re apparently going to act like nothing happened. Well, we know better - and the picture has been preserved for posterity…

Well Hamsher won’t. She’s of the mind of never apologizing for what she does. She got crap for using “Rape Gurney Joe” and instead of acknowledging she went out of line, she informed everyone that she didn’t actually invent the phrase she just agreed with it. As if that makes it all better. Jane has zip self control and eventually campaigns are going to distance themselves from her, she is a liability.

Looks like it is down. There is a pastiche of daisies. Seriously.

This was one of the sickest things I’ve seen.

No, it’s still up…you have to wait until the page loads all the way (the picture loads last) then look up towards the top…

I love how they are ADDING praising comments NOW. The top 2 were not there a few hours ago. All comments were not appreciative of the image.

OUCH!
August 2nd, 2006 at 2:18 pm
I think it is down for sure now … LGF still has it up though.
August 2nd, 2006 at 2:18 pm
Yep, this is her MO, she’ll never apologize for her bad judgement. On the otherhand, Malkin say’s it best…
Someone should ask him.
August 2nd, 2006 at 2:23 pm
The picture is down, but no explanation or apology was given…that’s just fundamentally cowardly and dishonest…
August 2nd, 2006 at 2:24 pm
Sorry, I know that last comment kind of repeats my update - I just put it in there in case anyone didn’t READ the update…

Actually I don’t think I even get what the hell they are trying to communicate. Joe is an Uncle Tom, I guess but that stretches just the historical Sambo/minstrel/blackface metaphor to a vaporous thinness and that is before any considerations of taste or the propriety of trivializing the facts of Jim Crow life of yestercentury. Joe is just mouthing for Massa? Is that Clinton? Well, we know that ain’t it. If it were Bush in the photo the thing might approach coherence. As it is, it’s just a bizarre spectacle like McKinney’s lunatic ramblings at her debate. Both are just too vapid to even be non sequiters.

The graphic is down, but the ‘coverup” is a flop - the bottom of the now-graphicless post still says “Graphic by Darkblack”.
FWIW (not much), the appropriately named “Darkblack” has contributed other graphics at FDL.

My favorite comment at the Huffington blog - Lieberman in blackface is “beyond the pale”. Well, yes.

[…] Also covering: Decision ‘08 notices the blackface picture was taken down without explanation or apology. Classy, as usual. Right Wing News Ed Driscoll remembers the “tar baby” gasps. Blue Crab Boulevard Expose the Left […]

Has anyone thought to send a screen cap of this thing to the Lieberman campaign? Not that I’m that big a fan of his, but I’d love to see someone beat Hamster and Huf n’ Puff over the head with it. I’d do it myself, but I don’t know how.

And all this takes place as Sharpton prepares to stump for Lamont. Go figure.

[…] Hey, no trouble at all…can I interest you in a Joe Lieberman in blackface, by any chance?… […]
