…but for how long? Nevertheless, for the moment at least, parsing the following reveals some strong U.S. pressure behind the scenes at the UN:
The U.N. Security Council expressed “extreme shock and distress” Sunday at Israel’s attack on the southern Lebanese village of Qana in which more than 60 people were killed.
The statement adopted unanimously by the 15-nation council “strongly deplores this loss of innocent lives” in Qana but did not call for an immediate truce, as requested by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan but opposed by the United States.
Rather, it stressed “the urgency of securing a lasting, permanent and sustainable cease-fire” and affirmed the council’s determination to work “without any further delay” to adopt a resolution “for a lasting settlement of the crisis.”
“Lasting, permanent and sustainable cease-fire” is the tipoff that Condi has held the line for now…but I truly think that Qana is the beginning of the end. Israel will have to wrap this up quickly - it’s time is rapidly running out…

Simple question no one seems to be able to answer, why? Why does Israel have to pay any attention at all to the UN and the other Arab states? If Syria or Iran attacked Israel has the military power to destroy their armies or nuke their capitols, it would be the perfect excuse for the US to come in on Israel’s side and destroy Iran’s nuclear sites.
Get this through your head: NO ONE ELSE IS GOING TO DO A GO**AMN THING. Not the UN, not NATO, not the eurotrash, not the arab states. No one. The political elites in most of those capitols are praying for a hizb’allah smack down as a way of backing off Iran.
Israel has no need to listen to anyone, even the US at the end of the day, since the US will always support Israel in the final crunch. What the absolutly do need to do is hand hizb’allah a massive defeat, or this is the beginning of endless agression against them by emboldened terrorist proxies. Since Hib’allah has defined down their ‘victory’ conditions to just not being exterminated in the first week, that’s going to be tough. But it has to happen, hib’allah has to be smashed, and Israel does not need to listen to anybody at all.
