Kerry Loses Latest Withdrawal Vote; Vows To Try Again Friday

Okay, I’m kidding about that last part; but how many John Kerry troop withdrawal proposals do we have to vote down? Scratch that – at least it supplies an amusing respite from the otherwise grim prospect of discussing the war. The latest:

In an 86-13 vote, the Senate turned back a proposal from some Democrats to require the administration to withdraw all combat troops from Iraq by July 1, 2007, with redeployments beginning this year. No Republicans voted in favor of the plan.

Minutes later, the Senate rejected by 60-39 the proposal more popular with Democrats, a nonbinding resolution that to urge the administration to begin withdrawing troops, but with no timetable for the war’s end.

That vote was mostly along party lines.

Mostly along party lines, yes, but not quite: among the six Democrats siding with the Republicans was one Joseph P. Lieberman. If he’s not careful, he might lose his strong Nutroots® support…

  • How many of these votes do we have to sit through? It depends, I guess. How many idiotic votes about gay marriage or flag burning or the estate tax do we have to sit through? I think the ratios should be roughly equal, to be fair, right?

  • Hey, I’m with you – I thought the gay marriage vote, while legitimate the first time around, was very opportunistic this time around – and the flag burning, well, that’s just pandering, no doubt…

Let Kerry propose and bring all the cut and run, let’s make Iraq Viet Nam cowardly anti-American votes to the floor he can manage with his limited capacities. It can only highlight and reinforce the cause of right. When will the Dems realize that Kerry is not only the worst thing ever to happen to Viet Nam but more profoundly, the worst thing that could happen to them? Not soon, I hope.

This event reminds me of an election. The Dems lose so they ask for a recount while changing the rules. They still lose and ask for another recount while changing the rules again to their advantage.

What’s the next proposal? A non-binding resolution that the troops stay as long as justifiably needed. Vote is 100-0. Dems claim victory and brag that they support the troops with the LSM agreeing.
