World’s Smallest Violin Department

This is breakin’ my heart:

CBS executives have decided there is no future role at the network for Dan Rather, making it certain that the man who sat in the anchor chair for 24 years will depart by this fall.

These executives recognize Rather’s contributions over four decades and are not trying to boot him because of the controversy surrounding his botched story on President Bush and the National Guard, say network sources who declined to be named while discussing a sensitive personnel matter. But the executives concluded there was no room for Rather at “60 Minutes,” particularly with incoming anchor Katie Couric planning to report a half-dozen stories a year and the hiring of CNN’s Anderson Cooper as a part-time contributor.

Rather was by a wide margin the strangest of the ‘big three’ anchors of Jennings, Brokaw, and himself; his ratings were horrible, and his bias apparent far before RatherGate.  I frankly miss Jennings and Brokaw; Dan, not a bit…

“…and are not trying to boot him because of the controversy surrounding his botched story on President Bush and the National Guard, say network…”

Right – whatever you say, “Eye on America.”
But we’ll miss not having Gunga Dan to kick around anymore.

Mark, did you catch the latest outrage in the NYT?

They gave a terrorist a front page op – ed yesterday, in which he claimed to be an innocent lamb languishing in our evil prison. Just one thing they neglected to mention – the guy’s been arrested in France for terrorist actions, along with his entire family!

    CBS and NYT – priceless.

  • I hadn’t seen that – but color me unsurprised…

I do miss Dan’s bizarre election night down-home analogies. “Why it’s hotter than a frog on a frying pan dancing the rhumba” and all that.

“Botched” means accidentally incorrect, no? Well, these guys have invested themselves in this fiction, certainly in no small part because of personal loyalties. So be it. Rather and Mapes have publicly declared that they will go to their graves believing in the fraudulent memos. And there must be sympathy, at the least, at the highest reaches of CBS for that crusade. It is of little moment however. CBS and the other legacy types are drowning; not slowly. Adios. Katie will pilot the bark beneath the waves. I will go to my grave (well after them) soundly, roundly and on good foundation believing that Dan and Mary knew exactly and precisely the fraud they were committing, were doing it explicitly to alter the course of the election (a felony, by the bye) and that they are indicative of the MSMers generally as well as Democrats across the board.

Amidst the plunging ratings and layoffs the perfidious clowns are befuddled & can’t figure out what to do.

When ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC all spout the same increasingingly bizarre Anti-American line, ands end up carving up the samll pool of liberal moonbats 5 ways, while Fox appeals all the Conservatives and moderate Americans they can’t figure out what to do…

Duh… But that would require them to trade in their world anti-Americans cards, and that is Verbotten!
