The Race Is On

U.S. To Iran: We’ll Talk, With Conditions

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has unveiled a new proposal for talks with Iran, if it makes the first move:

The United States is willing to join European nations in direct talks with Iran if the Iranian government first agrees to suspend its programs to enrich uranium and reprocess spent nuclear fuel, activities that Washington charges are part of plans to build nuclear weapons.

…”To underscore our commitment to a diplomatic solution and to enhance prospects for success, as soon as Iran fully and verifiably suspends its enrichment and reprocessing activities, the United States will come to the table,” Rice says in her prepared text. “We hope that in the coming days, the Iranian government will thoroughly consider this proposal.”

Rice’s remarks were given today to the Swiss ambassador to the United States for transmission to Iran.

Notice the ‘verifiable’ provision there…Iran may ‘accept’ this proposal, though even that is not a sure thing - but meeting the verifiable provision is quite unlikely, to say the least…

She was not as composed as usual. She seemed a bit agitated as if this press conference was planned at the last minute.

The key is that Ahmadhi-Dinner Jacket probably didn’t expect it. We tossed the ball back into his court. He has always insisted that he hasn’t been building nukes, and if he wants to sit down with us, he must have clean hands. I suspect she put these conditions in herself. It’s fairly well known that Rice has been resistant to negotiations with these rug merchants for some time, simply because there’s no good faith to be had here. However, I suspect that the Eurotrash were insistent.

Good faith, eh section9? You’re kidding right? I agree that, yes, now if he sits down to the table without his hands being clean he’s in for a beating, but your bad faith is quite apparent in your rather unfunny name play, but mostly in the rug merchant and Eurotrash comments. Hardy har har.

Mark, yea America. I haven’t said that in awhile. Color me hopeful.
