There comes a time when you have to call things by their proper name, and the proper name for Jane Hamsher and her cohorts at firedoglake is ‘hate speech proponent’. The wealthy movie producer turned abortion-rights extremist routinely throws heaps of steaming dung on her opponents, and seldom gets called for it; instead, she’s lauded and linked to as if she were making some contribution to civilized society.
Three qualities qualify a person for Jane’s undying hatred: that you be pro-life, a Bush supporter, or Joe Lieberman. If either of the three apply to you, for Jane and crew, you are subhuman scum. Many people excuse the hate speech found on Daily Kos because it is to be found primarily (though not only) in the comments; that’s not the case at firedoglake, where even a cursory glance reveals posts like this:
I’m a partnered gay man, and I have to say, WTF is the Human Rights Campaign thinking endorsing anti-marriage, anti-privacy Joe Lieberman? Rape Gurney Joe has never truly risked a thing for GLBT people, ever. He’s helped install James Dobson endorsed judges to the Supreme Court like Sam Alito and he’s done everything possible to undermine a progressive agenda in America.
Rape Gurney Joe? Hamsher uses the same tasteless appellation here.
Then there’s “Abu Gonzales” for our Attorney General. If Hamsher had any clue about Mideast culture, she would know that “Abu xxx” is an informal term of endearment translating to “father of” and then listing the name of the first born son - it’s known as a kunya. Of course, calling Alberto Gonzales ‘father of Gonzales’ makes no sense. Instead, we know the implication is that he’s somehow complicit in the abuses at Abu Ghraib, so Hamsher and her ilk, in their ignorance and with a little racial ‘wink-wink’, completely insult the very community whose rights they think they are defending.
The real fun begins when the issue is abortion. God help you if you are in favor of even the tiniest deviation from abortion on demand - because her view is THE ONLY PERMITTED VIEW AND IF YOU DISAGREE, THEN DIE!!!! Think I’m going over the top there? Not at all:
Lincoln Chafee should be wearing his Alito vote around his fu**ing neck, as should Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, and Emanuel should be making the South Dakota law de rigeur attire for Congressional Republicans in solidly pro-choice districts. The rapist rights bill should become emblematic for everything the GOP stands for, especially in progressive states where the Republicans are quite rightly afraid of being associated with the forced birth extremists.
One could gag from the fumes of the sanctimoniousness of that passage.
The ‘progressive’ left seems to take offense when they are called extremists and challenged by centrist Democrats who are really concerned with such trifling matters as winning elections - but in all honesty, if a person can read the bile routinely displayed at firedoglake and argue that hateful intolerence is not on display, then I can only speculate that said person’s moral compass is broken…

Simply lower your expectations of them to zero. Then you won’t be disappointed.

Comrades,
Wymanists? I thought the word preferred was “wombyn”… and don’t forget the gurrls and gyrrls…..
On a related note, have you noticed that University Women’s Studies departments consistantly rail against stereotyping, yet print up their flyers and handouts on pink paper?
I took a peek over to firedoglake. I thought maybe I might select a couple of articles, print them out, and use them to line the litter box. Then I realised how redundant that would be…..
Respects,
Gwedd

I love cats. Especially deep fried. (You don’t have to pluck them that way.)
