What The Hell Is A Partial Apology?
Jason Leopold, your career is calling from the funeral parlor:
On Saturday afternoon, May 13, 2006, TruthOut ran a story titled, “Karl Rove Indicted on Charges of Perjury, Lying to Investigators.” The story stated in part that top Bush aide Karl Rove had earlier that day been indicted on the charges set forth in the story’s title.
The time has now come…to issue a partial apology to our readership for this story. While we paid very careful attention to the sourcing on this story, we erred in getting too far out in front of the news-cycle. In moving as quickly as we did, we caused more confusion than clarity. And that was a disservice to our readership and we regret it.
As such, we will be taking the wait-and-see approach for the time being. We will keep you posted.
A ‘partial apology’? ‘Too far out in front of the news-cycle’? Who wrote this, Yu Fa Mism?
Of course, Rove could still be indicted – but I’m lowering my ultra-scientific odds again: 3-2 against…

Unless there is more to this story then I’m aware of, I’d say the odds are more like 3 to 1 or even 4 to 1 against. I just don’t see any prosecurer taking such a case to a jury.
Hey, Mark, I have it on unimpeachable authority that the sun will explode Monday, May 22nd. EXCLUSIVE- and the best part- it’s all George Bush’s fault- he doesn’t care about sun people.
And if we’ve rushed this story to press a little bit, we sincerely regret any disservice to our readers- just wait a couple billion years and it’ll happen.
Partial apology = unaccurate but true = not really, but wish it was = wishful thinking
What is this ‘wait and see’ crap? That’s what the people reading the news can say, not the one reporting it. There is not a single thing in Leopold’s report that has been confirmed as true. Rove might be indicted at some point, but it sure isn’t going to correspond with that bogus story….but I’m sure they’ll take credit for it.
[...] Give truthout points for perseverence – it looked as if Marc Ash, the Executive Director of the site (by the way, I prefer that from now on I be known as the Executive Director of Decision ‘08) was going to issue his ‘partial apology’ and retreat from the smoldering ashes of Jason Leopold’s career. No more – he’s apparently going all in with a low pair: I’d like to break this posting into two categories: What we know, and what we believe. They will be clearly marked. [...]
