A Parallel That Can’t Be Ignored
This is simply chilling:
Iran’s parliament passed a new law this week that would force the country’s Jews, Christians and other religious minorities to wear color-coded ID badges.
Iranian expatriates confirmed reports the Iranian parliament, or majlis, has approved a law that would require non-Muslims to adhere to a dress code which mandates they wear “standard Islamic garments,” according to Canada’s National Post.
The roughly 25,000 Jews living in the Islamic Republic would have to attach a yellow strip of cloth to their clothing, Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would wear blue ones.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader and highest authority, must approve the law for it to take effect.
“This is reminiscent of the Holocaust,” said Rabbi Marvin Hier, head of the Simon Weisenthal Center in Los Angeles. “Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis.”
Recently, there have been increasing calls for us to ‘reason’ with Iran, particularly in the wake of the letter stunt.
Maybe so, but we must move forward vigorously with sanctions and military planning; we may find one day that a bridge has been crossed, and burned…
UPDATE 05/21/06 12:26 p.m.: Apparently, the story is false, or at least exaggerated. Thank God…

At least a little cause for skepticism.

If it’s true, you’re right, it’s horrifying. But it seems as yet a bit uncertain.
Fargus, yeah, I was skeptical, too, and I looked for confirmation elsewhere. I found the UPI story that I linked to, and the Jerusalem Post also reports on it, though they base their report on the disputed one. In any event, if I find confirmation one way or the other elsewhere, I’ll note it…
Whether it’s true or not, one thing I’ve got to ask: Why are there any Jews still living in Iran? You’d think the time would have long passed where most would say it’s time to pack up for more agreeable surroundings.

Convert Or Die … Excuse Me?
This is much more than stubborn provocation; this is about paving the way for the ‘final solution’. It is an ice-cold calculation, especially when expressly joining Jews and Christians together as Infidels. The purpose is not to find out how far he c…
I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that the story is up on Drudge Report. However, the story behind the link is “no longer available”. Did anyone see the story Drudge linked before it was taken down?
Years ago I worked with a cat who would describe his biography thus: “I ran from Iran.” As a child he and his family of semetic Jews had been transported over the border in an oil tanker and then to the states; abandoning ALL property and not a few inambulatory relatives. The demographic tale of Jews in Iran and all Islamic ruled ME nations is out there and it is one of travail, injustice and misery undiluted. Iran is a miserable despotism. As usual, Jews were the canaries in the coalmine back when Carter dispossessed the Shah for reasons of decency so called. The result as we all know is a far worse register on any accounting of human rights (unless you do not count the dhimmi as human) and an implacable hostility to modernity (not to mention the US, not that the Carterites minded that) however concieved except in the advances of weaponry. Not many folks here need a new alarm but for the gen pop… WAKE UP! In philosophy these guys make Hitler look like Mother Theresa. Only their capacities prevent them from bringing the fate of Soddom to Brussels or New Delhi or New York and they are working feverishly on that incompetence. We dare not let them work in peace and security to correct this deficiency. On the day they may, they will destroy Tel Aviv. On the day following, if no objection is made, they will proceed to the next target.
Doubt it?
Why?
Evan, the Drudgealanche is the most coveted of all links – but it often has the unfortunate side effect of completely overwhelming servers that aren’t used to that many simultaneous visitors (hundreds of thousands in a matter of hours, in some instances). I think the link was to the original Canada Post story…
Thanks for clearing that up, Mark. I didn’t know whether the Drudge link was the same story you had posted or not.
And so it begins. Given the pre-occupation with painting Iraq as another Vietnam, I would view this as another 1938. Here we go again.
See my latest post for an update…it’s looking like the story is (thank God) untrue, or at least highly doubtful…
Obviously no one here has heard that this story was falsified, and retracted. This was completely on the testimony of iranian expats (not exactly the most reliable source for news in iran) and spread by the simon wiesenthal centre as truth. I wonder if the islamic congress of canada had said similar things about israel whether this would be front page national post, and what the retributions of it being proven false and utterly unfounded. i doubt any apology would be issued. it just shows the obvious media bias and slandering campaign against the iranian government. perhaps people should take a look at the current humanitarian crisis in palestine now. arab israelis are considered second class citizens, and an illegal wall is being set up and no one is doing anything about it. there is an obvious ghettoization going on. that seems to me far more reminiscent of the nazi regime than a false report. makes youreally think, eh?
Jeez, RedRose, you wanna read the comments before you accuse us of being patsies? Start with the one right above yours…
You guys were quick off the mark spreading the latest “look they really are the Nazis!” slur. I guarantee this drivel will be quoted on right wing blogs as fact for the next 5 years.

Golly, Iran has a jewish MP, who knew? Maybe this “black ops” slur will have a positive effect.
Brian – same message to you – can’t you read? If so, you’ll notice that I quickly noted the story is doubtful…
Well Mark, thank you for pointing out that the story was doubtful, AFTER it had already been posted on countless blogs and of course, the National Post, as being true (damn right wingers). I’m glad you managed to post that the story was appearing as false, but that doesn’t reverse the tide of slurring against the Iranian regime. The falsified reports got such huge media coverage and Prime Minister Harper was so quick to act on it, but now that it has been proven false, where are the apologies which I am sure would have been presented along with strong retractments by these same spreaders of this story had the false story been about Israeli actions? Nowhere to be seen that’s for sure. I’m not saying that as a collective we in Canada and the US are this bad, but it sure seems as though most of our media and government are.
and this is in response to All Things Beautiful: you mentioned on ur blog that they grouped Christians and Jews together as “Infidels”. Obviously you don’t know what you are talking about. Along with Zoroastrians, Christians and Jews are protected under the iranian government. they don’t have conscription, don’t pay two huge taxes, and are allowed to take off their own holidays, and drink alcohol which is otherwise strictly forbidden. as well, they are guaranteed atleast one representative in parliament, despite their populational proportion (i.e. less than 25000 jews get one MP while another MP resides over 4 million other voters). They are most certainly NOT considered infidels, they are considered “People of the Book”, which means their religions are considered true (adn according to Islam a true christian and a true jew are granted entry into heaven like a true muslim). Secondly, with Omar…i don’t believe u even know how much hatred iranians have for that man. When the arabs took over persia, those restrictions fell to race, not religion. persian muslims were still considered less than arabs. for instance, one of omar’s decrees was that if an iranian, even if muslim, were to be riding a horse and he passed by an arab walking, he would have to give up that horse. it was a pan-arab nationalistic ideology that spurred these ridiculous laws and limitations, not the religion itself.
[...] The Canadian paper that alarmed so many, myself included, with its story of distinguishing clothing for Jews in Iran, has completely backed away now: The National Post ran the piece on its front page Friday along with a large photo from 1944 that showed a Hungarian couple wearing the yellow stars that the Nazis forced Jews to sew to their clothing.
