Backing Off The Rove Indictment
Today brings new and oh-so-earnest ‘how we got it wrong’ spin by Jason Leopold and his defenders regarding the fact that Karl Rove is not doing the perp walk as of yet. Jeralyn Merritt has a piece detailing all the sticky little details that Leopold neglected to nail down before just running with it, man…
One thing to note – when an explanation is so convoluted that you have to read it several times just to follow it, that explanation is probably not worth spitting on. Also of amusement is that Jason Leopold and Joseph Wilson apparently share the same sources:
One last note on former CIA Analyst Larry Johnson’s comment on Democratic Underground that Joseph Wilson received the same information as Jason: Some have questioned whether Larry really wrote the comment, or whether it was an imposter. I e-mailed Larry, and he responded, indeed it was him. He added,
Joe heard the same things but not from Jason. If these multiple sources are lying then I certainly hope Jason outs their a*s.
So we see yet another standard for truth in journalism: run with the unconfirmed story, and if you get it wrong, you were set up, dude!…
Rove supporters need not break out the champagne yet, though: no less an astute observer than our good friend Tom Maguire says an indictment is likely Friday:
All that said, I am personally predicting (with 70% probability) a Rove indictment for this Friday, May 19, with a second guess of Wednesday, May 24.
Fortunately, I have no sources for that.
Note how Tom clearly labels his speculation as such. Mr. Leopold could learn a lesson from that…
