Democrats Getting Cocky

A weather vane that’s always wrong is just as informative as one that’s always right, and thus, the newfound Democratic crowing over their upcoming majority status has got to come as wonderful news to beleagured Republicans:

Democratic leaders, increasingly confident they will seize control of the House in November, are laying plans for a legislative blitz during their first week in power that would raise the minimum wage, roll back parts of the Republican prescription drug law, implement homeland security measures and reinstate lapsed budget deficit controls.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said in an interview last week that a Democratic House would launch a series of investigations of the Bush administration, beginning with the White House’s first-term energy task force and probably including the use of intelligence in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. Pelosi denied Republican allegations that a Democratic House would move quickly to impeach President Bush. But, she said of the planned investigations, “You never know where it leads to.”

Well, with all due respect to Pelosi, I do know where that leads to, and it won’t be impeachment.

Two reasons:

(1) the facts don’t support it, and

(2) does anyone believe for a minute that the Democrats will move to put Dick Cheney in the President’s office?…

Back to the 2006 election, though; count me as one nervous Republican. A Democratic takeover (especially of the House) is certainly possible, but it remains, it should be noted, somewhat less than a sure thing:

Stuart Rothenberg, editor of the nonpartisan Rothenberg Political Report, said his most expansive estimate classifies 52 seats as “unsafe,” 40 of them Republican, 12 of them Democratic. But, he said, only a tidal wave would dislodge the incumbent party from many of those seats, and more realistically, 30 Republican seats and five Democratic districts are vulnerable.

We’ve got to go on the offensive, and right now, the economy is our friend.

Tax cuts equal jobs and income…that’s the mantra. Repeat after me…

No, Mark, nobody wants to see Dick Cheney President. That’s why he’s as likely to be a target for impeachment as GW Bush.

“That’s why he’s as likely to be a target for impeachment as GW Bush.”

Yeah, that’s a great strategy for the Dems – impeach ‘em all, and then paralyze the government. Didn’t work for Gingrich, and it won’t wash here, either.

Someone needs to tell Polosi that both the Senate and the President need to approve any legislation passed by the house before it become law. This is no more than hot air and gas during an election year.

A Democrat controlled House will not impeach Bush. In my opinion they do not have the votes. They will continue to use the “impeachment” ploy as a political tool to obtain votes.

  • If Republicans don’t do something about the border situation, a lot of conservatives are going to be highly unmotivated on election day.

  • Agreed…see my latest post…
