CNN is reporting that Tony Snow is a done deal for the new White House Press Secretary. I’m not enamored of the choice - it seems to me that it doesn’t do anything for the credibility of either Fox News or the White House. However, if he is the choice, I’ll wish him well and reserve judgement (oddly, the White House never called to get my opinion on the matter)…
UPDATE 9:18 a.m.: Our friend from the left the Anonymous Liberal thinks Snow is ideal for the job, since he excels in accessorizing swine…

Agreed. I wish him well and all, but I honestly don’t see how recruiting spokespeople out of Fox News is really going to help anything on either side, as you said. I could see it as potentially harmful, or at the best, neutral.

I guess Baghdad Bob was unavailable?

Tony Snow was born to do this job. Just look at some of his recent columns.

Conservative White House hires a conservative pundit to be its conservative spokesman. This is supposed to be a problem? I could see the argument that it discredits Fox’s attempt to claim that it’s not biased, but it seems to me that no one really believes that Fox is neutral anyway, so it’s hard to discredit something that no one bought in the first place. (And you could argue that Snow was paid by Fox to give opinions anyway, not be a dispassionate reporter.)
The only difference I can see in this hiring is that most of the time, nobody had heard of the spokesman’s name before he’s hired. But the spokesmen that do get hired, no matter what administration, are usually committed party men. The only difference with Snow is he had some fame before this gig. (Although I wonder how many people outside of political junkies have heard of him.)

Bagdhad Bob, peter? Um, I don’t think that fellow would be too enthusastic in this position, would he? Now, he would certainly have the chops to defend a Kerry or Gore since they were quite happy with the status quo in Iraq that was so generous to Bob but the whole thing wouldn’t be too practical, would it? As I understand it, this fellow is answering some pretty serious charges… AGAIN, no thanks to any Democrat. Well, whatever.
But I can hardly wait the anguished yawp from the MSMers. I also would have been opposed to such a move on grounds of the appearance of a collusive relationship here but there is a nifty, one word response to such objections and a beautiful word it is though I don’t really know what it means. What is that word, can you guess peter? Say it with me…

Putting lipstick on a pig (think about doing that for a moment - I mean a real pig) would be a better job than White House Press Secretary, or whatever the title is.
You are the guy, or gal, who has to go in front of a hostile crowd and explain, defend, and justify the words and deeds of POTUS, all without revealing anything of substance and with strict guidelines on what you may and may not say. Talk about a lose-lose job.
Couldn’t pay me enough (well, yeah, you could, but they would never agree to my price).

Call the copyright office. I want a quarter every time someone says “Snow job”.
