So How Do The Voters Feel?
South Dakota is split right down the middle over the soon-to-implemented abortion ban, with 45% for and 45% against. Perhaps they haven’t read the latest brilliance from Jane Hamsher at firedoglake:
I brought up one of my favorite forced birth conundrums the other day, guaranteed to make wingnut “life begins at conception” heads explode. If a fire breaks out in a fertility clinic and you can only save a petri dish with five blastulae or a two-year old child, which do you save?
Oh, please – this is freshman ethics class stuff.
Why not just say if a fire breaks out in an old folks home, and you can save five elderly or two 30-year old interns, which would you save? After all, the two interns will have more of a full life ahead of them, presumably.
This is not a conundrum – it’s a cheap stunt of a riddle that might impress a fourth-grader, if he wasn’t too bright. If that’s the best one of the shrillest pro-choice voices can do, then perhaps the Roe advocates ARE in deep trouble…
