The bad: too long…but then they all are…and perhaps this is why I’m a Republican, but I found my attention lagging during the domestic bit.
The good: I loved the foreign policy stuff, and I loved the way he continued to come out swinging on the NSA program…
Overall: B…
UPDATE 10:21 p.m.: A great speech, says Hugh Hewitt; says Academic Elephant:”I loved the speech–particularly the foreign policy parts.”
Kos: “Nowhere near as good or powerful as last year’s (which I thought was his best speech ever).” (Yes, that’s right - Kos)…
I should note for the record that I have had an aggravating day with computer issues, so my B should be taken to perhaps reflect a little undeserved hostility with the world…still, I feel it’s a fair grade. Liked the speech, didn’t love it, but certainly good enough…and Bush gets the only A+ for a speech in my lifetime with his address to the joint session of Congress in the aftermath of 9/11, so it’s not that I don’t think the man can give a great speech - just that I think this was a merely good one…

I don’t believe in grade inflation so I’m going to take that as a pretty good mark.

I remember from 2004 that both Bush and Kerry had grade averages at Yale in the 70’s. Just goes to show that there was grade inflation even back then.

I still think a B is a good grade. Just ask my students.

And don’t forget about the woodchips, stalks and switchgrass.

Hey, AE, I’m glad I didn’t have you in college!…Actually, I earned my grades (mostly - I begged a C in Art History, and got one I didn’t deserve - there, the truth is out!)…

I could have helped you in that department.
