The Race Is On

None Dare Call It Treason? (Part Two)

Cindy Sheehan, comparing George W. Bush to Osbama bin Laden:

“I would say 30,000 more or less have died as a result of the initial incursion and the ongoing violence against Iraqis,” said George on December 12, 2005. Even if one accepts this very low guess-ti-mate by George, his policies have been responsible for ten times the 3000 deaths on September 11, 2001. By his own admission, he is ten times the terrorist that Osama ever was.

Let’s quit mincing words - Sheehan hides behind the death of her son, but it won’t work. That’s a foul accusation, and I feel more justified than ever in giving her the Jackass of the Year

UPDATE 9:08 a.m.: My thanks to Betsy Newmark, Charles at Little Green Footballs, and Ace for the links…

UPDATE 2 10:34 a.m.: God knows why, but I’ve been thinking about this some more. There are a number of assumptions behind Sheehan’s statement that give us a lot of insight into her worldview. First, the moral equivalence - no difference between regrettable casualties in a war zone and the deliberate murder of civilians, and the simplistic ‘math’ concept (as a reader at Betsy Newmark’s noted, that must make Saddam 500 times the murderer of Osama).

Then you have the ignorance of history: Osama didn’t just kill the 3,000 dead of September 11th. There are thousands of victims elsewhere on his conscience, such as it is, as well (or at least hundreds - see this tally).

And there is much more from the article I quoted that shows Sheehan’s unhinged venom: “George Bush and the evil neocons are killing our precious soldiers at the rate of 2.78 per day,” for example. Thank how many of our precious solders LBJ and FDR (not to mention Abe Lincoln) killed! Then there is this:

America: this is what you are allowing your government to do in your name:

Detain and torture prisoners without due process. Use chemical weapons on other members of humanity. Spy on Americans without a court order (I hope my conversations put them in a coma of boredom). Carpet bomb cities filled with human beings like yourselves. Destroy the infrastructure of other countries. Destroy the infrastructure of American cities. Cut taxes on the rich while pouring money and blood into the thirsty sands of the Middle East. Decimate our treasury. Rape the environment. Et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseum.

Destroying the infrastructure of American cities? Does Sheehan have a clue what carpetbombing is? We certainly didn’t do it in Iraq, though we did (along with our enemies) in World War II…what’s the point, though? Sheehan has become a court jester, a blubbering idiot walking around spouting the worst sort of vile nonsense…I’m sorry, there are thousands of parents of dead soldiers, but this is the only one I see making a damned fool of herself…This isn’t grief, it’s madness…

UPDATE 3 4:37 p.m.: Jeff Goldstein - err, Billy Jack - adds his two cents as only he can…

UPDATE 4 01/09/06 6:55 a.m.: Thanks to John Hawkins for the link, as well…

Where is that dang hole that needs open up and swallow here?

You know I agree with you that treason is a term that should be used advisedly. And in this case and your previous example, the shoe fits. Really. Is there no shame?

    Nope, none, not an iota.

Boy, I hate it when I read things like that.

She’s not giving Bin Laden credit for his other attacks, which, by my calculations, makes George Bush only 9 times “the terrorist Osama ever was”.

What kind of example is she setting for us if she can’t bother to get her math straight?

The Atom bombs killed more Japanese than Pearl Harbor, so Harry Truman was worse than Tojo!

Last August I had the chance to read about Casey Sheehan. You can read about this remarkable Soldier here: http://www.blackfive.net/main/2005/08/army_specialist.html

This is the man whose honor Cindy denegrates by her actions and statements. I have no sympathy for her.

The Tokyo firebombings killed more people than the atom bomb ever did. Don’t forget to include those numbers.

Quite correct - and we also should include the newly discovered records from the ministry of Japan during WWII, which estimated that over 20 million Japanese civilians would have died in the event of an invasion. Also add in the estimates of Allied casualties, and you’ll get the complete picture regarding that action.

I’ve concluded that she was driven insane by the death in combat of her son who disagreed with her completely about the rightness of the war. Armchair psychology, I know, but I cannot resolve her behavior any other way. I don’t accept or agree with what she says, I feel only sadness for this, now, pathetic woman.

Don’t forget, well over 75% of the 30,000 casualties (which is a “low” estimate only if you do not include discredited estimates in your analysis) were committed by allies of Osama Bin Laden. How the fact that Osama’s sick henchmen have killed more people in Iraq than they managed to kill in New York on 9/11 somehow operates an indictment of Bush — and not Osama — is a complete mystery to me.

Not only is she not giving bin Laden credit for any attack other than 9/11 (and even if she doesn’t think dead brown or black people or Jews count, really, what are Australians? Chopped liver?), but she’s giving Bush credit for every one of those 30,000 despite the fact that most of them were killed by jihadists, not Americans.

Obviously she’s some kind of neocon, distorting the facts like that!
