Do I lie? No, no - here’s the proof:
The YearlyKos Board of Directors announced today that Democratic Senator Harry Reid will speak at the 2006 YearlyKos bloggers convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Senator Reid’s reputation as a common sense leader who unapologetically stands for what he believes in has made him a hero to many progressives, especially in the netroots where we don’t pull any punches,” said convention organizer and board member Gina Cooper. “His presence at the convention will inspire a new generation of grassroots progressives.”
The YearlyKos convention is scheduled for June 8-11, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition to nationally-known political speakers, the convention will feature workshops, seminars and social events designed to bring together the liberal/progressive community that has grown around Daily Kos, the most heavily-trafficked political blog in the world. The site generates an estimated 4-5 million unique visits or more per week.
“Senator Reid’s popularity in the netroots, despite being a moderate-to-conservative Democrat, is proof that we aren’t about ideology,” said Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas. “Rather, we rally around leaders who aren’t afraid of their own shadows, aren’t afraid of their convictions, and aren’t afraid to take the battle to the corrupt neocons, theocons, and corporate cons who are misgoverning our country.”
Ha, ha, haa, haaaaa, ha, ha! Whoo-ee, that Markos, he knows how to get a chuckle out of this ol’ boy - whooo, hooo - ha, ha, haaaaaaaaa!!
Senator Reid a ‘moderate-to-conservative Democrat’? Haa, haaaaa, ha, haa, haaaaaa!
Oh, that’s good stuff…

Maybe they can check in with the “moderate-to-conservative Democrats” at this meeting:

I particularly liked the setting–The Temple of Labor. That’s somehow more appropriate than Las Vegas.

Viva Las Vages
Yeah, Harry is a moderate. I wonder what Markos thinks Joe Lieberman is - an “evangelical right-winger?”

I know that this tinfoil - hat wing must somehow be engaged by the powers - that - be for the Dems, but don’t they realize that this will wind up being exhibit A in the GOP campaign commercials regarding the congressional elections this year?
They’ve already got the burden of the inane utterances by Howard Dean to parse to the electorate, but one can only wonder why they have such a masochistic streak here.

Don’t say such things when I’m eating, it’s dangerous.

What I find most intriguing about this, in conjuction with that recent magazine profile on Kos, is that he takes pains to argue that he isn’t ideolgical. Now nevermind the silliness of a guy claiming he isn’t ideological and then laying all the sins of humanity at the feet of a different ideology. Why is he unwilling to come out and call himself a leftist and proud? He says his group rallies around leaders who aren’t afraid of their convictions, yet he doesn’t want to claim any convictions of his own?
