The Aftermath

More On Iran

Pajamas has a roundup of reaction to the Der Spiegel report claiming the Bush is planning on striking Iranian nuclear facilities. Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad seems determined to bring public anti-Semitic references to a level not seen since the end of the Second World War:

“Don’t you think that continuation of genocide by expelling Jews from Europe was one of their aims in creating a regime of occupiers of Al-Quds (Jerusalem)?” the official Islamic Republic News agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying Sunday. “Isn’t that an important question?”

Ahmadinejad said Europeans had decided to create a “Jewish camp” as the best means for ridding the continent of Jews. He said the camp, Israel, now enjoyed support from the United States and Europe in the slaughter of Muslims.

Iran has also rejected the latest offer aimed at defusing the crisis:

Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator has rejected a Russian offer to produce nuclear fuel in its plants for Iran, the latest effort to resolve a diplomatic impasse over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Speaking on state-run television Sunday, Ali Larijani argued the offer would deny his nation’s right to “be in charge of its own fate” on energy matters.

Steve Forbes says Iran, not Iraq, will be the global hot spot of 2006. He may be right…

Great minds, yet again on this one–this is my thought:

At some point, we’re going to have to ask ourselves, as the Israelis clearly are, for what we are waiting? I must say I thought it a little odd that Cheney and Rumsfeld went to the Middle East back-to-back last week, and guess who’s there now: Peter Pace. Sure, it’s the holidays and everyone wants to support the troops, but the Vice President, the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in ten days?

So maybe the answer to that question is “The President’s decision.” Or perhaps “Not much” would be more accurate?

I’m still of the opinion that Mossad has done the due diligence on the operational status of the facilities, and the type of bunker - busting munitions that will do the job effectively. Expect to see the Israelis do the dirty work here, with our tacit support (as always).

We should have taken out Iran nearly 30 years ago. Carter has set the pace for the left’s foriegn affairs impotence and nothing’ s changed since. So the inevitable has happened. Iran is “this close” to going nuke and now we HAVE to do something. Without the couage of the current leadership and the coalition, the world would just sit by as Israel became a radioactive wasteland.

Is there anyone, anywhere suggesting even a vaguely plausible nonmilitary solution to Iran’s nuclear ambitions?
