Kerry Says If Dems Take House, Impeachment May Follow

Is John Kerry the worst politician alive? Is the sky blue? Is the Pope…well, you know the rest.

JFK II had this to say at a little shindig for his campaign alumni:

Kerry was speaking at a holiday party for alumni of his WH ’04 bid.

About 100 campaign vets gathered at Finn McCool’s bar in D.C. to hear him. In a short speech, Kerry praised Dems who were working on Senate and House campaigns, and then said, according to one listener: “If we take back the House, there’s a solid case to bring articles of impeachment against this president.” Another listener heard a slight variation: “If we win back the House, I think we have a pretty solid case to bring articles of impeachment against this President.” Kerry then quickly added, according to several in the audience, “Don’t tell anyone I said that.”

Kerry Comm. Dir. David Wade, in an email, said his boss was joking. [MARC AMBINDER]

Wade: “Is it really a story that, with a smile on his face and to ensuing laughter, at a Christmas party for his hardest working troops who are still working to win in 2006, a Democrat joked about why these diehard Democrats needed to keep dreaming of a Democratic Congress? Impeachment jokes in Washington are as old as Don Rumsfeld and as funny as Dick Cheney is gruff. Only the truly humorless would say bah humbug to the rarest of partisan red meat.” Wade said Kerry often asks this question: “How are the same Republicans who tried to impeach a President over whether he misled a nation about an affair going to pretend it does not matter if the Administration intentionally misled the country into war?” More Wade: “Good luck finding a Democrat in America who disagrees…”

But several in Kerry’s audience said the comment made them uncomfortable, in part because they believed the press would discover what Kerry said and twist its context. In keeping with Kerry’s wishes, several attendees, while acknowledging what he said, declined to comment when asked about the remarks.

Wow…

First of all, does anyone really think he was joking? Is there a joke even remotely hidden in there? Kerry is such a political coward that he can’t even stand up for his own statements one day after he makes them.

More importantly, here’s Kerry, talking impeachment with a bunch of his cronies on the eve of the Iraqi elections – anyone see a disconnect here? Joe Biden, by contrast, was in Iraq, watching the process unfold. I really think that says just about everything there is to say about these two gentlemen…

Give him a pass. He was among friends, probably drinking, and later had his spokesman apologize. These are partisan times, mostly by the democrats hand, but for him to apologize for it personally, as opposed to having his spokesman, might expose him to a potential campaign commercial.

It is very similar to the Trent Lott case, but of even less importance. If I was judged by every stupid thing I said in a bar, they would have executed me in a lot less time it took for Tookie.

I do have a question on kerry though…

Is he going to run in 08?

    RealClearPolitics has the Cook Report-

Kerry is second to HRC, but tie with her as Veep…
Also worth a look at Wes Clark in the poll-he had been a dem fantasy candidate, but is now at 3%. Interesting in that Kos had him at about 25% on his page a couple of months ago. Very telling of how far Kos’ followers are removed from the mainstream(members of their OWN party.)

    Here’s my prediction:

Kerry is done as a presidential candidate. We will start hearing more and more little inside stories from Dems about his weird/inappropriate comments. and quirky behavior.

The Clintonistas need to clear the path for HRC, and once Dems turn on one of their own — as they did on Dukakis and now will on Kerry — there will be no rebound.

The only thing we can hope for is they keep runnning their mouths like this over and over and over and scare the good thinking democrats over to the right.

  • Here’s another thing that struck me about this comment–when he realized he had said something imflamatory, instead of saying, “You know I’m joking because we are after all at war and we’re all Americans together” or some such thing that would actually make him look better, he takes the craven way out and asks people not to tell. Which of course they do–and these are his loyal “alums?”

Oh, he’s running, but I don’t think he’ll get very far.

You mean John – John actually told a joke? Ah, don’t believe that the Tin Woodsman capable of such a thing.

I particularly like the defense offered by Kerry’s spokesman: 1) It was a joke, so don’t take it so seriously, and 2) Bush seriously deserves impeachment anyway.

It’s a perfect example of Kerry’s “triangulation” policy. The three corners being his words, common-sense and whatever is politically expedient at this moment. Unfortunately, for him, that’s a losing position in a Democracy.

“Is he going to run in 08?”

    Yes.

  • [...] The left (and the Democrats) are looking to the November 2006 congressional elections. (Mr. Coffey has an article concerning John Kerry’s statement that if the Democrats take the House in the 2006 elections, President Bush could be impeached.) But if the situation in Iraq is stabilized, if we are clearly winning in Iraq by November of 2006 (and we are clearly winning now, but the left won’t admit it and too many elements of the media won’t cover it), a left and Democratic Party which has based their entire strategy on an Iraq in chaos is sunk, done for, cannot win. [...]
