The Race Is On

Lieberman - Let the Smears Begin!

Kos and his progressive ilk have never had much use for Joe Lieberman - he’s far too principled, he supports Israel, and he doesn’t engage in partisan baby fits. Needless to say, they’re not about to let Lieberman tell the truth about Iraq. Here’s Kos’s reply to Lieberman: ‘Lieberman Out of Touch’…and here’s a representative comment:

lieberman is married to 3 things, all of which are served by the war in iraq:

the neo-con movement

the economic theory of globalism

blind, almost pro-likudist support of israel

Beyond parody…’blind, almost pro-likudist support of Israel’, ‘neo-con’ - not to mention he’s a Je…er, um, yes…well, that is to say…check, please!…

I had a troll come on and tell me we (conservatives) are welcome to Lieberman. I told him we would be honored to have him.

Sometimes it sucks to be right. But I will remain optimistic in the hope that Kos, et al, will continue to out themselves as childish, unprincipled, hate-mongers resulting in the positive elevation of Lieberman - at least among reasonable people.

Interesting link to Kos, which offers a link from Atrios, which provides no link to his source, despite it being another lefty blog.
“res ipsa loquitur”-I looked but found no transcript.
Then I looked for Michael Ware, Bureau Chief of Time Magazine, Baghdad…hoping for a transcript to the show “Morning Sedition”.

Didn’t find a transcript, but it seems that he has done an inordinate amount of time being interviewed by Air America. My intial rxn was that there might be some creative, unsourced, transcriptions…but looking at some of his choice interviews and quotes(which did have links) it would seem he may have gone ‘native’- if Baathist, Al-queda, and insurgents are representative of the people of Iraq.

Let’s see some of his reporting…
Got a primo interview by traveling with insurgents in 03…

    Some good stuff…
O’BRIEN: [You spent] three months with the insurgents, how did you gain access and were they initially fearful about talking to you?

WARE: Very much so. It’s been a very slow process. A lot of gumshoe journalism, establishing trust with one contact, gaining trust with that person and then going on from one to the next. This large network, this sophisticated unit we have found came to me, asking specifically for me, on a recommendation, I’m thinking, from another resistance group.”

Can he put the terrorists on his resume as a reference? How does one gain the trust of terrorists, when other jounalists are being kidnapped? Must be because he is such a ‘dedicated’ journalist…he also seems to be the conduit for insurgent bombings caught on film.

    This a recent one-uses the phrase ‘mini-tet’ twice in a 732 word essay…

    an excerpt-
“The soldiers of Blue Platoon don’t need to be told that. On Aug. 23, with four insurgent video cameras rolling, al-Zarqawi’s group sent a truck bomb under cover of small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades straight into their observation post. The explosion knocked the entire platoon–more than 30 troops– unconscious. They recovered and fought back, only to be hit by the mini-Tet three months later. Until the U.S. begins a withdrawal, it’s up to soldiers like those of Blue Platoon to man the bunkers. “After the truck bombing,” says Gronski, “every one of them, to a man, said, ‘We are not pulling out of here.’”

Interesting also, from looking at his body of work, is that the Bureau Chief in Baghdad seems to exclusively write about the armed conflict, but never discusses the political side of the news there. I share Ware’s belief that the US will not end the insurgency…but, unlike Ware, realize that the end will be achieved politically, when Iraqis are responsible for their own Country. A sentiment which is shared by Lieberman, who Ware reportedly(thru Air america) dismissed as being unaware of reality. If I want news on the political progress, it would be useless to read Ware…although in Nov 04, he suggests that the elections are for show and little intrinsic value. ooops…better stick with reporting news from inside the insurgency.

blind, almost pro-likudist support of israel Kos Kids have to be dumber than tree bark. Are they that stupid?

  5. 5 mtl Says:

It is painful to say this…

but, as much as I would like to jump on Kos for being an anti-semite, which he probably is, I can’t hold his subscribers rants against him. The potential for leaving racist quotes on a site, for the whole purpose of mocking the site creator for his ‘fan-base’ exists.

  6. 6 Fargus Says:

I’ve got to agree with mtl. Mark, I like your work in general, but you have a habit of taking comments from Kos or Atrios, holding Kos or Atrios accountable for them, and then further holding up those comments as representative of “the left” at large. I think that that’s a huge assumption to be making, and incorrect to boot.

  7. 7 mtl Says:

Actually the suppostion that the far left despises all things-Jewish/Israeli is a fair one.
(and Kos is their blogging prince-and he has made minimal effort to establish a ‘decorum’ on his site regarding Israel.)

As far as Saddam being contained by sanctions-which is the left’s belief, he was offering the families of Palestinians 25,000 dollars for a homicide bomber. This kinda fits the title, ’state-sponser of terrorism’…to a tee.

unless you do not consider Israel an ally, it would be hard not find the logic of Iraq paying for terrorism, openly, a grave threat to world peace and a blatant demonstration of the threat he posed.

The left glosses over that part, the WH has failed to hammer home that argument, just as the left can discuss Bush’s failure to ‘internationalize’ on its mission, without mention of the oil for food scandal.

Coffey’s ok, his point does establish that it is from a comment and not Kos, himself, but mixing the author of the site and authors of comments is a tricky business.

  8. 8 Mark Says:

Fargus, I certainly don’t think Kos is representative of the entire Left - but he (and his readers) are certainly representative of the infestation known as ‘Progressives’. I have tried to make the distinction clear in all of my writings between the honorable Left and the nutso branch - but that doesn’t mean the crazies don’t exist (believe me, I am knee deep in Progressive land here in Austin, and nothing I’ve ever quoted from the Kos is any more partisan or bizarre than things I hear on almost a daily basis from the good folks of my adopted home)….
