Chris Matthews: Terrorists Not Evil, Just Misunderstood
Chris Matthews on our enemies:
Four years after 9/11 and the “crazy zeitgeist” that permeated the United States, most Americans have still not learned to know their enemies instead of just hating them, U.S. political journalist Chris Matthews says.
In a speech to political science students at the University of Toronto yesterday, the host of the CNBC current affairs show Hardball had plenty of harsh words for U.S. President George W. Bush, as well as the political climate that has characterized his country for the past few years.
“The period between 9/11 and Iraq was not a good time for America. There wasn’t a robust discussion of what we were doing,” Matthews said.
“If we stop trying to figure out the other side, we’ve given up. The person on the other side is not evil — they just have a different perspective.”
He said Bush squandered an opportunity to unite the world against terrorism and instead made decisions that have built up worldwide animosity against his administration.
Let’s see:
Flying airplanes into buildings.
Beheadings.
Mass murders at funerals.
Not evil – just a different perspective.
Unbelievable – if there is a better example of the dangers of moral relativism, I’ve yet to see it (hat tip to the MinuteMan)…

It is shocking how many people can be consumed with hate for Bush, but will let truly evil people off the hook.
Based on this speech I nominate Chris Matthews as the weekly Jackass. Any objections?
You think Matthews will concede that conservatives just have a different perspective on this world and we are not evil. Maybe he has stopped trying to figure us out and does not realize that we are just Freedom Fighters for Truth, Justice, and the American Way and he just can not open his mind up enough to see it.
Muffin, it seems a wise choice to me…but the week is still young!…
Chrissy was, is, and has always been a political hack, back to his days when he worked under Tip O’Neill (whom I always respected, even if I rarely agreed with him). He learned absolutely nothing about common sense and fairplay from his erstwhile mentor – more’s the pity.

“…they just have a different perspective”
yeah chris, an evil perspective.
Somehow this escaped my vigilance–I came across the speech this morning and did a post on it that I crossed at RedState along with others, and Matthews emailed in to RedState that he had been misunderstood, that’s he’s actually very tough on terrorism but that he thinks we need to get our minds around this “massive hatred” in the muslim world. I don’t see any disavowal of the “perspective” remark, just some serious backpedaling…anyway, you might be interested in that discussion.
Thanks for the tip…I’ll check it out…
[...] Recently, I posted on the amazingly dumb (apparent) statement of Chris Matthews regarding terrorists not being evil, but merely having a different perspective. This was quoted at TorontoSun.com. [...]
