Decision ‘08

The Aftermath

Condi Says No Run

Condi Rice is saying she has no interest whatsoever in running for 2008…and so does virtually every candidate. I’m beginning to believe Condi, however; I think she would be a victim of Bush fatique if she ran. I haven’t updated my odds or done any candidate profiles lately…that’s because I’m in the process of rethinking those areas of the blog. Soon, I hope to unveil some changes…

    Small 2006 aside-
Pew poll has Dems in congress at 32% approval, 48% disapproval.

    GOP? 32% app, 52% disapp.

I’m just not getting the whiff of 94. I would make a prediction though…

    lower turnout than 2002.
Barring a terrorist attack, a significant change in unemployment, the idea that scandal will affect the GOP is quite ludicrous.

Individual candidates remain individual candidates. The recent trend for press, alluding to 2006 as a ‘watershed’ without any real explanation why…

I think there’s a reasonably good chance Condi will be asked to run as VP if the GOP nominee is seen as a traditional southern conservative white guy (e.g. Allen, Huckabee, etc.).

But I seriously doubt she’d run for the job herself. I might not bet my house on it, but I’d probably bet my shed.

Hmm. I’m reluctant to give up on Condi, and NewsMax certainly gives the same remarks a different spin. Given her position, it’s still much too early for her even to hint coyly that she might be interested, and her demurrals still fall well short of Cheney’s “not just no, but ‘hell, no!’” refusal.

The point about Bush fatigue is a good one, though. If she does eventually choose to run, it’s a factor she’ll have to consider. The candidate for whom I think this is an even bigger issue is George Allen, whose policies and general demeanor strike me as basically Bush redux. Maybe I’m being overly subjective, but I kind of doubt voters in 2008 are going to be in the mood for a third helping of W.

    Not the best source, but…

“Powell Admitted Circulating A Classified State Department Memo Identifying Plame Aboard Air Force One. “After a June 12 Washington Post story made reference to the Niger uranium inquiry, Armitage asked intelligence officers in the State Department for more information. He was forwarded a copy of a memo classified ‘Secret’ that included a description of Wilson’s trip for the CIA, his findings, a brief description of the origin of the trip and a reference to ‘Wilson’s wife.’ …On July 7, this memo and the notes were removed from the safe and forwarded to Powell via a secure fax line to Air Force One. Powell was on the way to Africa with the president, and his aides knew the secretary would be getting questions…Powell told prosecutors that he circulated the memo among those traveling with him in the front section of Air Force One. It is believed that all officials in that part of the aircraft had high-level security clearance.” (Los Angeles Times, 8/25/05)

The only problem is that Plame’s name, if some of what Miller said is true, was already known by June 23, clearing the occupants of the plane.

My bad…the previous blurb belongs inanother section.

The point is “Condi Says NO Run”, and it so funny no other Dem or Republican is being held to any fire by the media except Condi. Now why is that? Are the Dems so afraid a Republican with foreign policy experience would win the nomination or are the Dems more afraid a black woman will win the nomination? And the fact Condi is also a black citizen who rose to such a high position as Secretary of State based on her own brainpower and merit might be a good thing instead of riding on a husband ’s coattails or family wealth. So keep debating the issue while americansforrice.com builds a base of support for Sectratary Rice.

Hey, we love Condi around here, I would love for her to change her mind…
