More On Judy Miller And Why She Talked
Many people have been puzzling over why Judy Miller would suddenly talk to a grand jury after a receiving an assurance that she could testify from Dick Cheney’s Chief-Of-Staff Libby Lewis that was substantially like the one she received months ago. Newsweek says it was because Patrick Fitzgerald intends to impanel a second grand jury after the current one expires at the end of this month, a prospect that could have kept Miller in jail for months more. We are also treated to this little nugget:
Tate [Libby's lawyer] acknowledges that Libby did indeed tell Miller that Iraq war critic Joe Wilson’s wife (Plame) had arranged for Wilson to take a CIA-sponsored trip to Africa to probe reports that Iraq was seeking uranium for a nuclear bomb. But he says Libby did not know Plame’s real name nor her undercover status at the CIA. Nor, he says, did Libby talk to Robert Novak, the columnist whose story outing Plame prompted the criminal probe in the first place.
Well, that’s Libby’s side of the story, then; did the grand jury hear different from someone else? We may know soon…
