Bush Directly Involved In PlameGate? Riiiiggghhhttt…

George Stephanopoulos has set off a firestorm among the lefties with this quote:

Definitely a political problem but I wonder, George Will, do you think it’s a manageable one for the White House especially if we don’t know whether Fitzgerald is going to write a report or have indictments but if he is able to show as a source close to this told me this week, that President Bush and Vice President Cheney were actually involved in some of these discussions.

(Unfortunately, I don’t have a link to the transcript to see what Will’s reply was).

In any event, this is a slender reed to get all worked up over – first, we don’t know who Stephanopoulos’s source is. Second, what does that mean, involved in some of these discussions? Bush could have just said to Karl Rove, “Find out what you can about this Joe Wilson guy” – hardly illegal or even unethical. Third – what discussions? The discussions about Joe Wilson, about his wife, about Fitzgerald’s investigation, about Judy Miller being in jail? If Stephanopoulos had something really juicy, don’t you think he’d spill it?

In other words, dream on…

Think Progress has a tidbit that, if true, could completely change the dynamics of the last three years of President George Bush’s term — and note that we sa…
