This may be the shortest Weekly Jackass ever…some statements, after all, speak for themselves. May I present Charles Rangel:
Comparing President Bush to the Birmingham, Ala., police commissioner whose resistance to the civil rights movement became synonymous with Southern racism, Rep. Charles Rangel said yesterday of the president: “George Bush is our Bull Connor.”
Mr. Rangel’s metaphoric linkage of Mr. Bush to the late Theophilus “Bull” Connor - who in 1963 turned fire hoses and attack dogs on blacks, including Martin Luther King Jr., demonstrating in favor of equal rights - met with wild applause and cheering at a Congressional Black Caucus town hall meeting, part of the organization’s 35th Annual Legislative Conference.
…The storm [Katrina], he said, showed that “if you’re black in this country, and you’re poor in this country, it’s not an inconvenience - it’s a death sentence.” Denouncing Mr. Bush for waging “a war that we cannot win under any stretch of our imagination” instead of providing for those devastated by the hurricane, Mr. Rangel left his audience with a parting thought.
“If there’s one thing that George Bush has done that we should never forget, it’s that for us and for our children, he has shattered the myth of white supremacy once and for all,” the congressman said.
Thanks to our friend on the left Peter for reminding me of this quite worthy candidate…

If I’m not mistaken, Rangel occupies the House seat which for years was held by Adam Clayton Powell — maybe there’s something about that district that they want to elect a clown ==

“…and you’re poor in this country…”
In the case of being poor, it isn’t a prerequisite to be black as well. Is he implying that Bush , or even “Bull” for that matter, would turn a fire hose on a poor white person? Wouldn’t that make him Stalin rather than Bull Connor? Charlie’s not thinking clearly these days. Oh wait - he never has.

I think he is right about spending money on Iraq instead of using it to help the poor. All the money we’ve invested into irradicating poverty has been super-extra effective so far. The solution is clearly to simply send even more money.
Any jackass can see that…

Well said…

Perhaps it’s small of me to note this, but someone should inform Mr. Rangel that even you’re white and rich in this country, it’s still a death sentence.
Unless that cryogenic stuff has improved more than I realize…

I can’t believe this guy. I don’t know why Bush can’t control the weather and where people live and the Louisiana officials who were more to blame than anyone for not evacuating their people sooner.
