Decision ‘08

The Aftermath

Miscellanea: Waiting For Rita Edition

Rita has now become the third most powerful hurricane on record; I can tell you in Austin, there are already long lines at the gas pump and the grocery store, and very little water to be found…

Reaganites Unite! says Condi ‘08? Not at this rate, as he posits a correlation between Middle East politics and U. S. disasters…

As usual, ScrappleFace has it about right

The fight for a better world? No thanks, I’ll stick with the GWOT (hat tip to our good friend J. A.)…

Whatever happened to PlameGate, anyway? Don’t worry, the MinuteMan has got you covered

Have to say — I agree with Condi’s comments. The entire point of the Gaza withdrawal is to force the Palestinians to develop a leadership that can do mature things like keep the streets free of potholes, keep the water running and the power on, keep the schools running, and so on.

Like it or not, Hamas IS what passes for leadership among the Palestinians, and they have to be a part of this. That’s the whole point of Democracy — the leaders actually represent the people they lead, both their virtues and their faults.

Well, Clint, I’m in the middle here; I’m not pleased with the Gaza pullout, necessarily, but I think politically, it was the only long-term move that made sense. I’m not as distrustful of the Palestinians as I am, say, the North Koreans, but there is still a lot of hatred towards Israel embedded in that society…I wonder, can they live so close to someone so hated? If they want a state, it seems they have no choice…

  3. 3 Clint Says:

Let’s just say, then, that Rita’s growing in strength and heading for Texas is probably not best understood as God’s reply to Condoleeza Rice’s encouraging Israel not to “disrupt the polls” during the new Palestinian elections in January, even if Hamas does field candidates.

That kind of reasoning is several levels below standard Astrological idiocy. Almost on the same level with B.D.S.

In any case, how are you set for Rita? Got adequate supplies?

  4. 4 Mark Says:

Yeah, thanks for asking…I’m covered…plenty of candles, food, water, batteries, what have you…I’m actually scheduled to go out of town this weekend, but I’ll have to make that decision later tonight or tomorrow as to whether that’s still feasible…
