Support Cindy Sheehan? Then Get Her Out of Crawford

The anti-war Left cares no more for Cindy Sheehan or her loss than they would for any person who denounces George Bush. Sheehan is clearly befuddled by her grief, unable to think clearly, and in need of professional help. The following story dramatically illustrates this:

Bothered by what she laments as mounting “distractions,” Cindy Sheehan sought yesterday to refocus her peace vigil near President Bush’s ranch on her central anti-war message.

Since she “came out here and sat down on a lawn chair” 10 days ago, Sheehan, 48, said it’s “got out of hand and just turned into a media circus.”

For instance, she cited calls for the president’s impeachment as “another distraction off of our original cause.”

On Sunday, she faced reports that she was not paying her federal income taxes. “They killed my son in an illegal and immoral war,” the Vacaville, Calif., woman told a reporter who asked, “and I don’t feel like I owe them anything.”

And yesterday, Reuters news service reported that her husband, Patrick Sheehan, filed to dissolve his marriage on Friday in Solano County Superior Court, according to records on the Web site of the local court in Northern California. Neither could be reached for comment.

Cindy Sheehan has been besieged not only by burgeoning numbers of her own supporters with all sorts of agendas of their own, but also by counter-demonstrators over the weekend — and on Sunday by an angry neighbor who fired a shotgun into the air near her camp.

“The media attention has been fabulous,” she said at a news conference to introduce other military families opposing the war in Iraq. “We have finally gotten this war back on the front page and back in the headline news where it belongs.”

Still, she said, she had stayed awake all night reviewing recent events and wished now to get back to the basics of her vigil — and her demand to meet with the president.

“I don’t want to be distracted,” she said. “Our message is to bring the troops home.”

Sheehan blasts distractions and media circuses in one breath, then celebrates the publicity in the next. She laments calls for impeachment as another distraction, yet she travels in a bus with ‘Impeachment Tour’ in large letters across the side. She demands to meet the President, yet she has already done so, and has stated on network television that she doesn’t really want to meet him, anyway, it’s all a big show. She says her family supports her, even as her husband files for divorce. She states that the Iraq war is illegal, yet admits to being an income tax cheat, an illegal act by definition.

Either Cindy Sheehan is emotionally disturbed, or she is cynically manipulating the press and public. I choose the charitable option, and ask that her supporters get her the professional help she needs, quickly.

UPDATE 3:17 p.m. central: More from Leon H at Macho Nachos, including a denial by Sheehan of one of the key charges in my Weekly Jackass account. Like Leon, I find the denial less than convincing in light of other documented statements…

  • Fair Game or Foul Play?

John Cole is gasket-blowing angry at Michelle Malkin over Michelle’s posting of the Sheehan divorce papers. A quick ecosystem check informs me that John and Michelle are the two bloggers most likely to link to my humble abode, so a

This woman’s family needs to get down to Crawford with a butterfly net. The whole spectacle, if it were on stage, would now be met with stony, stunned silence. Since it is NOT on stage but on cable, it will go on until she implodes. Will the anti-Bushies be aided by the broadcast of this woman’s breakdown? We’re going to find out.

You know, it has been exceptionally cool the past couple of weeks here in Texas. The temps are about to spike near 100 degrees, and the humidity is soaring. Back to roasting!
Let’s see if a case of heatstroke will slam her mouth shut!

If she stuck to bemoaning her son’s death, I might feel differently.
The politicizing of his death is almost criminal in itself.
Yes, she has the right to spew forth her rhetoric.
I do not have to like it. I certainly do not like it in my backyard!
She is very lucky that the neighbor that shot into the air did not “slip”. Most rural Texans are VERY good with a firearm!
I’m just sick of hearing about this misguided soul!
She is doing more damage to her son’s memory the more she speaks out. After she is done, his memory will be forever tied to his mother’s yammerings.
Her son did an admirable thing, volunteering to serve his country!
Y’think he re-upped to escape her blathering?

  • Melissa, I’m not far from Crawford myself – located in Austin…and you’re right, it’s about to get blazing hot again…I suspect the little circus will loss some of its party atmosphere under that August Texas sun…

Well, we will see. The weather is no joke but the veiled allusions to gunplay are not, in my book, kosher at all. Nor was the reported discharge of same if it was in any manner (let’s say “reasonable manner” as a gunshot of any sort is profane to some folks) menacing.

  • megapotamus, I totally agree; gunplay, indeed, is no joking matter…

What’s her logical next step here, is she going to literally drag around her son’s corpse behind her Impeachment Bus?

This has gone so far beyond self – parody that you’d think it was just bad performance art. But no, it’s actually reality – or at least her skewered version of it.
