…as UK authorities report all four July 21st bombing suspects are now in custody. Well done…
UPDATE 2:07 p.m. central: More good news as Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf orders all foreign students in the country’s religious schools (or madrasas) to leave, and promises to shut down unlicensed schools…

Mark -
Maybe it’s my own paranoia getting the better of me, but does this guy really want to follow through on his pledges? If we do finally capture Bin Laden, then what card does he have left to play with us?
We’ll just turn around and start pushing him for more democratic reforms, something he definitely doesn’t want to do.
I realize sometimes you’ve got to play the realpolitic enemy - of - my - enemy - is - my - friend game, but this kind of stuff has gotten us into major trouble in the past. I’m Curious as to what your readers think on this matter as well.

Dmac - re: Musharraf…I don’t trust him completely, either, but, to borrow your analogy, what other card do we have to play? There are a lot of stories out now about untrustworthy people saying the right things…well, I say it’s a first step. Maybe if they say the right things enough times, they and others who hear them just might start believing it. …Am I dreaming? Maybe…time will tell…

Perhaps it’s the $$$. As in shut down the foreign exchange student program or else we’ll hold back the money. Not just us but perhaps other countries as well. It probably helps that he and India are trying to thaw out their relationship since AQ has interjected itself into the dispute over Kashmir - something neither wants to see.
