The Aftermath

Seems Like I Was Busy Doing Something Close to Nothing…

Eric at Viking Pundit has totally owned the non-story of all non-stories…that is to say, the lack of ideas in the Democratic Party. Today, he was shocked to find an actual position being taken…alas, as so often, the devil is in the details. Read all about it here

Yawn. Social Security is a snoozer. It reminds me of the president talking about steroids in his SotU speech a few years ago. There’s a war on, the economy is shaky, Medicare is about to come crashing down on our heads, and THIS is what we get worked up about? If Social Security ever turns into an actual problem, we can raise the retirement age a few years and the whole issue will evaporate. Why does anyone care about Social Security’s “insolvency”?

  2. 2 Mark Coffey Says:

Ryan, I have to disagree with you here…I think if we don’t bring some fiscal sense to the system, we are facing disaster. On a personal level, I’m a big believer in the ‘ownership society’ concept, meaning I’m for PSAs, and I also think the retirement age is too old already…I don’t want to be doing the 8-5 routine when I’m 75.

    Typically abysmal “idea”.

Some small fraction (just a guess, but maybe 5%) of workers don’t choose to take advantage of their employer’s 401k plans….** Define this to be an enormous disaster. Mandate that everyone invest in their 401k plans, regardless of their wishes. Declare a wonderful success.

Wrong on so many levels, and yet such a small idea as well. At least ten years ago Dem’s dreamed big with their incredibly poorly thought out plans to “fix” things.

**(who knows, for a few percent of the population there might even be a reason why this is wise…. ten kids to support you in your old age and a greater need for those funds now to get them through college, for example).

Yeah, they’re really thinking ‘outside the box’, aren’t they?…

  5. 5 Andy Says:

If 5% is considered dramtic, that must be comforting to Nader. I wonder what 19% would be consider as? Mainstream? Gotta love these masters of hyperbole.
