The Aftermath

A Word to the Doubters

(If you’re new and coming from one of the generous links, here’s the original Coalition post - why, oh, why doesn’t my Blogger page link right anymore?)…

To our detractors, let me just spare a brief word: don’t presume that you are any more a conservative or Republican than Coalition members. Last time I checked, our party doesn’t require a loyalty oath. I’ll put my conservative credentials up against anyone, anytime; this isn’t High Noon, in fact quite the opposite; it’s a fun way to comment on rhetorical excess…

Now that that’s out of the way, join me in welcoming new members Ryan from the Big Tent Blog and the Flag of the World

Also, I’ve been meaning to refer you to our good friend BSR at Mike Huckabee for President 2008…this blog makes no endorsements (at least not yet), but he’s got contagious enthusiasm for his candidate and has been a frequent visitor to these parts…

And speaking of old friends, the great Arthur Chrenkoff wants your help in sending get well wishes to a certain possibly wounded and/or dying/dead terrorist…

  2. 2 The Commissar Says:

I also hate the label ‘moderate’ that gets lazily applied to secular, small-govt conservatives who take issue with the Religious Right and some of Bush’s policies.

They have no better claim, indeed perhaps a weaker claim, to be real conservatives.

One of your Coalition Members admits that he advertises only for money and regardless if the advertisement goes against what he supports.

    So.. BRING IT ON:-)

P.S. We “Religious Right” don’t label Anti-Religious Rights as Moderates. We label you as extremist liberals. And for good reason.

The last time I met a small government, secularist, I left him mumbling about the ACLU until I posted up a news article showing how the ACLU really is against the Christian religion only and not all religions.

And frankly, most of you secularists seem to despise Christianity more than any other religion.

    So yea.. bring it on.

  4. 4 jeff macmillan Says:

Clarification in case my above post gets misinterrpreted:

ACLU = Against Christian symbols of Christmas on public grounds instead of all Religious symbols on public grounds.

P.S. Don’t get me started on John McCain, Arlen Specter, George Voinovich, etc.

  5. 5 TheAnchoress Says:

I’ve changed my mind! After what they pulled today re Bolton, enacting another “filibuster but we won’t call it that” I say screw chillin’, I’m DONE chillin!

  6. 6 Mark Coffey Says:

Anchoress, we’ll miss you…but we respect your wishes. Jeff, please, I don’t mind you commenting, in fact I welcome your contribution, but this is a free country, including freedom of religion, or the freedom not to worship at all. Obviously, you didn’t hear or choose to ignore the words of our own great President at his most recent press conference.

And where’d you get that ACLU crap? Who said anything about the ACLU? Did you think you’d stumbled upon the site of People for the American Way? If you read this blog regularly, you’d know I have strongly defended the right of religious conservatives to have a voice in the political arena without being vilified - in fact, it’s been one of my most prominent themes!

All the same, the Commissar and other dissenters are equally Republicans - or do you decide? If so, you’re so powerful I can’t believe you’d spend time here at my little ol’ blog…

  7. 7 Mark Coffey Says:

By the way, jeff, I’m not trying to pick a fight…you really are a welcome voice…but we’re not laughing and high-fiving, we’re just asking for a little perspective…I submit we’d lose MORE votes in 2006 by going nuclear than we did by compromising, so I applaud the deal for quite selfish reasons as a good Republican…

  8. 8 The Country Pundit Says:

Actually, we do have an oath. See here for details. Nobody’s ever made me take the thing, though.

Additionally, Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform has a Taxpayer Protection Pledge that is almost a de facto oath. It comes in both a State and national version. While nobody at the RNC makes you sign it, going against Grover can be problematic if not fatal. The man’s got a lot of money at his fingertips and doesn’t mind spending it hunting his fellow Republicans.

  9. 9 Mark Coffey Says:

Well, I’ll be a…I stand corrected (jeez, did you read the thing? It’s more suited to the Libertarians than the current Republican style of governing - that may be a good or a bad thing, depending on your view)…I’ll give you credit in a later update…

  10. 10 Beth Says:

    Hey Jeff MacMillan,

Care to debate who’s more conservative? Bring it on over at my place. Just because I:
    1) have a potty mouth
    2) don’t go to church or belong to a denomination
    3) listen to heavy metal music, even the foul stuff, and
    4) don’t care to alienate the majority of Americans and turn them away from the GOP …

does NOT make me a damn “moderate” OR make me anti-Christian (note that one has nothing to do with the other, as well)…much less a LIBERAL.

BRING IT ON, as you say.

It’s idiots like you who make moonbats think the GOP is gunning for a theocracy. Keep it up and your next President will end up BEING one of those moonbats, and I’ll blame YOU.

  11. 11 Citizen Grim Says:

Yo dude, I’m throwing in my support for this Coalition of teh Chillin’ :) All I ask is a comfy chair and a cold beverage…

Senate Hijinks or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Compromise

    Keep up the good work!

  12. 12 Mark Coffey Says:

    Uh-oh, Beth sounds pissed…better you than me…Citizen Grim, you’re in, next update…

  13. 13 jeff macmillan Says:

I’ll check out Beth’s challenge now that “Memorial Day” is over.

“It’s idiots like you who make moonbats think the GOP is gunning for a theocracy. Keep it up and your next President will end up BEING one of those moonbats, and I’ll blame YOU.”

I think the GOP should gun for freedom to practice one’s religion. Not freedom FROM religion.
