Taegan Goddard’s Political Wire reports on a National Journal poll of ‘insiders’ to be released tomorrow on 2008 candidates. The result: Senator George Allen of Virginia vs. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York. That doesn’t smell right to me; two senators? I’m a firm believer in the Southern governor strategy, myself (of course, I’m generalizing). Still, I should profile Allen, I suppose. Look for it this weekend, time permitting (a hat tip to Chris Bowers, again)…

Oh Lordy … I love the Gov but I smell another Dole pineapple!

Re: “two senators?”
Actually… exactly what I’d expect in a poll of Washingon ‘insiders’ — people who can tell you in a heartbeat who the third-ranked minority member on any given Congressional committee is, but couldn’t name three lieutenant governors to save their lives.
How many washington insiders saw Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton as a serious candidate before their campaigns really took off?
(full disclosure — I can’t personally name the third-ranked member of even a single committee off the top of my head, and even the name of my own state’s lieutenant governor slips my mind at the moment.)

Yep, it’s the insider thing that’s key here…
